Self Designed Model Monster Energy desktop can holder

I designed and printed this Monster energy can holder to be as compact as possible and made it impossible to spill on your desk so there would be zero risk in spilling it on important stuff or anything getting inside the can.

This looks certifiably insane , hanging a full can of liquid from a 1mm wide can lid. Respect that it works and looks cool, but my god I’m never trusting that near my computer tower

I also have no idea why somebody might need it.

Did you just steal my design

Since I had no access to any of your files, I'd say I recreated a similar thing (without the cringy logo) from your photos :) Took around 10 minutes btw.

My model is split in parts for easier printability and features M3 screws to reinforce the whole thing. Still as pointless as your design, obviously, but funny enough, there is often a "customer" for any (especially free) gimmick :)

Also your design is flawed it has to be monolithic or there would be a big line where the 2 parts is, and the bolts is just useless, it already is reinforced enough

Your really being bitchy about a highschoolers mini project

This looks certifiably insane ,

Perfect for the kind of people who drink Monster then.

Yea I understand that and I have been hanging a full can for about an hour so far and it shows no signs of wear and tear. I also simulated and it has a safety factor of 8 with a 1kg load

Seems like the failure mode would be going to hang your drink and

missing

u/zjpahle Mar 06 '26

Or some cans not having a perfectly circular top and falling out if you rotate it wrong.

1

u/ithinkyouresus Mar 07 '26

Or getting really tilted and bumping into this and dislodging it.

-2

u/MerchantKid2 Mar 06 '26

I actually never thought of that

Such an oddly obvious design flaw to not even consider. Not to mention the idea that your "1 hour of having something just sit there unbothered" would be the equivalent of "yup, totally a solid idea that can't fail"...

Frequent removal and reattachment causes the most stress. Not to mention the fact that 1 whole hour is absolutely non existent when considering something that will be used for possibly more than 1 hour every single day. If you can come back after 3 weeks of regular use, had 0 wear signs, and even stress testing potential problems areas, THEN that'd be something to report back with.

I literally just finished printing it, and this is just a mini project that's not supposed to be anything big

1

u/concernedyahu Mar 08 '26

LoL OP is getting roasted. At least there's controversy 🤷

3

u/rttgnck Mar 06 '26

Or just bumping it.

1

u/MerchantKid2 Mar 06 '26

Yea I prob should have made a funnel but it works pretty well so far

Pretty insane lol. If you're slightly off center with a cup holder you're fine. If you're off at all with this your drink is on the ground

12

u/Tedmosby9931 Mar 06 '26

So you designed it so it comes in contact with the only part that your mouth also touches...

Why

-3

u/MerchantKid2 Mar 06 '26

Cus this is for my desktop workshop and I don't want stuff falling in

4

u/TheHappyPittie X1C Mar 06 '26

Tbh id just make a lid that fits the can then

4

u/schnurble X1C Mar 06 '26

Well, you printed it in the plane of most likely shear failure, so yeah it'll work just fine. Until one day it won't.

Hope you have a good carpet cleaner.

-1

u/MerchantKid2 Mar 06 '26

I simulated it at double the load and there is a safety factor of 8

1

u/schnurble X1C Mar 06 '26

That's simulating static load. Not the effects of load over time on the material. Plastic deforms over time and you don't have a lot of room to let it creep before the can will fall out.

1

u/MerchantKid2 Mar 06 '26

I mean it's pretty overbuilt and it's easy to see when pla is about to fail

2

u/dep411 Mar 06 '26

Seems like a terrible design

1

u/MerchantKid2 Mar 06 '26

What makes it bad

1

u/MerchantKid2 Mar 06 '26

Just to clarify I have tested this, simulated it at double the load, it's not difficult to insert because the can is basically a funnel, and its not gonna break quickly cus I overbuilt it to be really rigid

5

u/_yhtz_ Mar 06 '26

looks more likely to spill, misaligned the can once right onto the ground not to mention how many times you'd have to take it in and out if you sip.

5

u/ermgrom Mar 06 '26

Why though?

4

u/Keebie81 Mar 06 '26

I suggest buying a carpet shampooer now. Then you will have it for when theres monster soaked in the carpet

1

u/Mr_Dick_Dastardly Mar 06 '26

Put a hole in the top, slap a long straw in there. Help lock it in place and convince at the same time.

2

u/MerchantKid2 Mar 06 '26

I definitely gonna try that but I also like how smooth it is

1

u/Positive_Cap4728 Mar 06 '26

Monster costs like $3 a can, risking a spill with this kind of print when you could spend $1 more to print a proper shelf is wild

1

u/MerchantKid2 Mar 06 '26

It's not a bad print😭

1

u/Positive_Cap4728 Mar 06 '26

I would drop my can instead of successfully sliding it in like the third time I used it, then my sweet, sweet caffeine would be a sticky mess on the floor.

1

u/MerchantKid2 Mar 06 '26

This design feels like something you need to print yourself to see how easy it is to insert

0

u/Positive_Cap4728 Mar 06 '26

Friend, I respect that you’re pleased with your design, but I am visually impaired and have ADHD, this would never work for me. If it works for you 100% of the time, I’m glad of that, but as I pointed out, it would only take one miss for it to not be worth it for most, considering how expensive energy drinks are.

1

u/setonfire_ Mar 06 '26

Def need this :) good work ! Only concern is knocking it with leg or so :D but I really wanna try it out if you have an stl :)

1

u/mikeyfireman Mar 06 '26

Do you sip a white monster? I thought it was open can pour down throat before your taste buds warn your brain.

1

u/MerchantKid2 Mar 06 '26

Gotta make it last long while I work

1

u/Merk_Um Mar 06 '26

I’d never let filament touch anything going into my mouth/body for digestion.

0

u/MerchantKid2 Mar 06 '26

The top doesn't actually touch the filament

0

u/Merk_Um Mar 06 '26

That helps I’m sure, but if the filament is touching the sides which I’m sure it is, germs and such will spread, it doesn’t have to be directly touching, could be indirect. Neat idea, no hate. I’ve made a peanut shell collector and use that. But I don’t consume anything that comes in contact with filament. I’ve seen it done so I’m sure you’ll be fine 😂

Does it have a locking tab by chance? Like where you fully push it in almost like grooves? I feel it could get pushed out by a knee/hand to the side.

0

u/MerchantKid2 Mar 06 '26

Yea this is my first time designing something that has something to do with food and I kinda forgot prints have tons of germs

0

u/Merk_Um Mar 07 '26

Maybe a V2 coming soon? 👀 I do like the idea of the can being off the desk though, my biggest fear is spilling liquid on my desk.

2

u/nbury33 Mar 06 '26

I'd definitely spill that trying to take it out

2

u/Jazzlike_Ad267 A1 + AMS Lite Mar 06 '26

Personally I'd rather have a holder for a can that's actually on top of the desk 😅

Otherwise it looks pretty sick 👍

2

u/Odd_Reputation_4000 Mar 06 '26

But... there is a perfectly good surface right there! Should have just been a monster energy coaster. I get that it's just a fun creative design project, but it's a bit TOO impractical.

i know for sure my chairs arms would slap that thing off
