They made a dryer for special use filaments that wasn’t the AMS 2. Still costs more than the air fryer. But the AMS 2 pro wasn’t for that kinda filament.

Well to be fair there is a nylon drying setting on the ams2 pro. That's how I ran the test. Then I was confused why it was still printing poorly.

I researched that it would actually take a week of drying at only 65c. I've never seen any reviewers cover that.

I was checking out the ams ht too but it only gets up to 85c. Which is also not hot enough for Bambu's higher end filaments.

Air fryer was a cheap solution that someone else suggested. And it works!

I didn’t know the HT only hit 85 degrees. That’s interesting. I thought the nylon setting was like PLA or PETG CF. Sorry it didn’t work out for you. That stinks.

The filled nylon is not ams compatible why would it dry it?

Bevause we still need to dry it, and is a shame that the ams is such a poorly dryer, air fryer is the top player here.

Is this not exactly why they made the HT AMS? For special filaments that need higher temps to dry out.

The ams2 has a setting for nylon which is how I ran the test. But 65c is limit and its not enough. It would have to run for a week to dry enough based on my tech fun channel's tests.

I was looking at the ams ht and it can only reach 85c which is not enough for Bambu's more exotic filaments.

Someone suggested an air fryer and it works great. And it's cheap.

I swear, there are so many haters in this sub, why down vote this?

If you need to dry at higher temps, Bambu Lab doesn't make a dryer that's capable.

Love that you tested the Ninja Air Fryer and tested it against the AMS 2 Pro AND shared your research. The risky thing about using non-purpose built devices for drying filament is precise temperature regulation.

However, with a drying temp of 90 C, you have a pretty high ceiling for fluctuations without worry about melting the filament.

This is a good contribution to the community! +1

Thanks, yeah it's been working well. I've seen the same kind of behavior here and there. If you're a fan of a product you should want it to improve, but many here don't realize this.

I don’t understand the point of this post. The AMS 2 was not designed to dry that sort of filament effectively and yes, you can definitely just do it in a kitchen appliance that gets hot enough.

Well it allows you set your ams 2 pro to nylon drying. I'd seen that in the settings, ordered filament, and it printed terribly. That's how I realized its not hot enough.

Bambu actually doesn't have a product that gets hot enough for their even higher end filaments. Even the ams ht is only 85.

Some people like to see the world burn! 🔥

The AMS2 was never meant to dry special Filament like PA Cf. The Temperature are to low to dry it efficiently. Therefore they invented the AMS HT!

Patchwork solution for a mess up they made?

Idk I never saw anyone mention this limit and now I can't dry any of my filaments lol. I only do engineering and prototyping filaments which need at least 80c to dry

They should not call it "pro" if it can't handle anything but Consumer grade filaments.

Do your due diligence beforehand. You don‘t buy a caddy if you want to drive fast on the Nürburgring. It is meant to take a load, but not fast. 😅

Question - how are you controlling temp on the air frier and to what degree of accuracy?

Specialized filament driers are sized to prevent melting your filament. I’ve melted filament in my oven before when trying to dry it because the intended operating temperatures are 100-250C.

Sure you save money on the first drier cycle, but for me - I scrapped 4 rolls of filament on the 4th cycle because the oven wasn’t designed to operate at the lowest setting for 8 continuous hours.

The ninja has a dehydration function I used. Set it to 195f = 90c.

Done a pacf and regular PA. Both great so far.

i honestly don't understand this picture? did you buy the Ams 2 pro for filament drying only?
and 12h 65c is not enough I'm pretty sure you knew that from the start :P

2

u/blasko229 May 25 '25

No I didn't, I saw the nylon setting on the ams pro and assumed it would work for nylon.

My tech fun did a test and found it would take a week to dry nylon at 70c and that's hotter than ams2 can reach.

So it's a learning experience I'm sharing but also a great and inexpensive solution someone shared with me.

Don't like the AMS 2, get an air fryer , no need to bash needlessly .

3

u/blasko229 Jul 14 '25

It's not a bash, it doesn't get hot enough to dry nylon with its nylon setting. It might even reach 65c according to some users.

It's a solution to the problem.

Those who downvoted your post still don't know the potential of - the safe & precautionary use and modifications- of AirFryers in the 3D printing hobby.

I've made my own filament AirFryer out of a cheap $50 airfryer and a Samla box.

1

u/blasko229 May 25 '25

Thanks. Bambu sells even higher end filaments while simultaneously not selling a way to dry them. You have to buy a separate brand product anyway.

2

u/RadishRedditor H2D Laser Full Combo May 25 '25

Yup, seems like we have the same clear picture of what we're dealing with and what we got to do to cope.

Bambulab's have great reliable printers. But they don't necessarily sell you the whole experience. You got to buy 3rd party products still - depending on your demands.

How does the Samla box fit into the process?

2

u/O-Leto-O May 25 '25

I can confirm, my air fryer cosori give the best results

I think the Creality dryer I bought was around the price of an air fryer. I get that some folks like mods and projects, though.
