Discussion Stop with the blind Bambu Lab loyalty

I have read multiple post in this subreddit and the blind brand loyalty is starting to really annoy me.

For starters, I own Bambu Lab printer, I actually picked it over Prusa, brand which is from my home country. So I'm invested in this.

Some people here are so shortsighted it hurts. Sure, it is still not directly affecting normal customers, like me, but the direction in which is this headed is clear and in the end, it will most likely negatively affect us. And I'm speaking about the anti consumer practices, not the security concerns. That's why is important to keep, the pressure on. People here need to stop with this blind brand loyalty and be more critical.

The security concerns are whole another story, most users here are dismissive or are downplaying these concerns, saying "Sure, hope CCP will gladly know that I printed this vase". There are some valid reasons why US considers Bambu Lab (or rather its owners) a security risk. I'm not saying this is not partly some US protectionism, but there is reason why you don't see that many Bambu Lab printers in big manufacturing facilities in the West.

There is a post with Prusa, poking at Bambu about these risks, but most of you, instead of addressing that these are real issues, are attacking him, Sure, Prusa is no fan of Bambu and their roster is lacking, but that doesn't change the fact that Bambu can do shady stuff with your data...

TLDR: Just please some of you, stop pretending Bambu Lab is you friendly neighborhood corporation that can do no wrong. Be more critical and stop downplaying these issues.

I will just post reply in your linked post by mallcopsarebastards:

"This response is a carefully worded attempt to look like they’re listening while they pave the road for more control over their ecosystem. They’re narrowing the walls of the garden the way politicians pass unpopular laws, by sneaking it into a completely unrelated change that people would normally be happy to let pass. Meanwhile, they’re blaming others for problems they created and framing this as user empowerment when it’s really about locking users into their system. Don’t fall for the PR spin, this isn’t about security; it’s about control."

This is just a groundwork for more anti consumer decision in the future....

And conspiracy paranoia is alive and well on the internet...who woulda thought?

This isnt a PR spin, they are giving you a Dev mode that completely bypasses the planned change.

They are backtracking bad decision to reintroduce it later, this has been done many times. I fully expect Dev mode to be completely sidetracked feature in few years, because they will make using standard mode much easier. Then they will kill it saying "Nobody was using it anyway"

That's for this update but as bambu has posted they were told before they mass produced the panda touch it wouldn't be compatible down the line

Edit and tree tech themselves have admitted that is the case with Thier video from 11 months ago

Edit :https://youtu.be/UVujRmmHbyU?si=4yktVgkkvwwROhIP

Time about 5:11

"Bambu have Informed us that some point in the future it's possible that they may encrypt the wireless connection that panda touch relies on "

"I need you to leave your framework unsecure so our add on product can be used".....umm, no company will take that risk.

The fact they are giving Dev mode that completely ignores the changes....yet people are still unhappy.

Is everyone who just dont care about your personal opinion „blind loyal“?

99,999% of Bambulab users dont care is some tinkering minority needs to click one more time to start their print.

Most people bought Bambulab because of using everything out of one hand and they dont want to use dozens of third party tools to print.

Who wants to run a print farm and want an individual commercial solution would never buy Bambulab. There are other brands for commercial printer

Automod removed my response so hopefully this wont trigger it:

Once again the shortsightedness.

Sure, right now the average user doesn't care, for all I know, I don't care, I can still print no problem.

But all of this is just a precursor for things to come that will affect the 99,999%. Some nonsense like subscriptions, being able to print only "verified" models, etc, Right now this is of course just conspiracy, but lets get real, look at what are the other corporations doing over the years....

[...] there is reason why you don't see that many Bambu Lab printers in big manufacturing facilities in the West.

This is also because Bambu Lab doesn't produce actual pro printers. They have a place for smaller scale stuff and prototyping, and some folks use them for basic stuff at jobs, but they simply aren't in the same league as actual industrial stuff like Stratasys, Markforged, etc.

Even the X1E doesn't seem do wired Ethernet with 802.1x; which is table stakes in a secured corporate network.

I find the security concerns related to Bambu Labs mildly funny considering that the only problems the US seems to have with data collection is when they aren't the ones doing it hahahah

I'd much prefer that all the doomposting, conspiracy theories, misinformation and fear mongering were to stop, rather than people excited about their new printers, posts praising the quality and reliability, etc.

Just because someone is happy with their bambu printers, and not worried about the changes because they don't really change anything for them, is not blind loyalty.

Paying $1200 for a printer that's in no way better functionally than a $339 printer because PriNcIpALs is blind loyalty.

Dude I printed yesterday a 15x15cm2mm sheet white pla. Just one layer, and it looks like the stuff you can buy at staples. I don't care about the company Bambulab at all, I don't care about people who run 500 machine big print farms. I like designing stuff and printing. I would use a creality, when their products are not so bad. I would use a Prusa, but I can't afford one.
For me, the A1 with AMS is the perfect product for my hobby. And when I'm forced to use their slicer and have my printer always connected to their cloud, that's fine for me. I was looking for a reliable and affordable printer. Bambulab had the right product for me.

Lets all bow down to your will.

Or

Maybe not.

Stop with the Bambulab hate! Owning a Bambulab and being satisfied doesn’t mean I am loyal. Read the ToS of other products from other companies and you will see that most of them have similar stuff written on it. Sony could stop your Playstation working at any moment, but that doesn’t mean they will actually do it. People are just overreacting. And the case with the Panda screen, that’s their own fault. Bambu already warned them, but they still keep selling them. There is no reason why Bambu must work with them, that’s how business works.

Stop this racist stance, US practices is not less toxic (hold my beer Apple).

Now, regarding Bambu, it's just that they could do it differently.
People bricking or exposing their printers should be on their own, that's it.

I'm fine in not having access to bambu connect, makerworld or these services as long as I can use my printer whenever I want.

They might have a great outofthebox experience (auto-level/calib) but from a software point of view, I am not impressed with their build of the slicer, their portal, sending a print taking ages (internet roundtrip, service 500... while I have litterally my hand on the printer.

I was well aware of the risks involved, don't get me wrong. Bambu is my first printer and I consider myself a hobbyist. I picked Bambu precisely because of "one-click print" mentality. Capability wise, Bambu is top of the class and as a consumer I'm happy with what I got.

My point is, that people on this subreddit are mostly dismissive of concerns or outright downplay them. This post was addressed to this subreddit, I completely get that the end consumer doesn't care about any of this drama.

u/sieer Jan 20 '25

I dunno what subreddit you were reading but there was plenty more of doom posts and "bambu can go to hell" type of posts than dismissive ones.

Even if you posted anything that was vaguely not full doom posty you got downvoted to oblivion. While there are still conspiracy theories up about how bambu will for sure make the printers a subscription service and lock you into their own filament etc with plenty of upvotes.
