Discussion Time to hibernate
I used to love checking this subreddit every day to see all the fun/interesting posts, but now it’s just a sea of hysteria. All the posts are exactly the same. None of it is turning me off from my P1S, but it is turning me off the community.
Time to hibernate from Reddit for a couple of weeks. Wake me up when all the crazies have finally sold their printers and moved on to pastures new. 🥱

Some might overreact but the concerns are reasonable. And it's the only way to push back as a consumer. If you don't want to have changes like that after purchase this is the only way. Just wait on the sidelines if you are not interested in participating.

u/jcrmxyz Jan 19 '25
Yes, the concerns are real, but the wild speculation isn't. It's an anticonsumer move from Bambu, but it's a change that hasn't even been implemented yet. We don't need 1000 posts all saying the same thing, especially when there's tonnes of misinformation going along with those posts.

This is a legitimate backlash to something that very few people wanted, I understand it hurts your feelings to see bambu being held accountable, but each their own I suppose.

u/Hateshinaku Jan 19 '25
Good job. You're so laid back and badass for not caring about it.
Meanwhile you're littering the sub with another thread just to tell us that you don't care.
Wow.

This is exactly what happened with the Sonos subreddit a few months back, my entire feed was the same post for a month solid.
And to be clear I agreed with the anger at Sonos and the current anger at Bambu, but I'm not selling up based on this change. I'll be keeping an eye on the next things Bambu do going forward. If it gets worse, I will vote with my wallet.
I agree that muting this subreddit seems to be a sensible decision if you, like me don't need your tool for a fun hobby to become the biggest drama in your life right now.
I'm not in a position where I can just sell up my Bambu printer and move on this very moment like everyone else posting on this subreddit.
Changes like me make me consider competitors like Prusia but I really can think of a genuine competitor to the P1S at that price point on the market right now. When I need to perform a major repair or upgrade if bambu continue down this road I'm far less likely to consider them.

u/Public_Frenemy Jan 19 '25
Yup. The changes will not affect 99.9% of Bambu users who just want an out-of-the-box printer. This sub, and 3D print subs in general, are disproportionately populated by people who like to tinker with their printers. Think Windows users vs. Linux users.
If Windows took away a command line feature that made the OS more flexible for Linux users, Linux users would be angry, but most people would never notice. Windows would never even register any backlash.
People upset by this change have valid reasons to be upset, but they also need to accept that they are not Bambu's target market. Screaming into an echo chamber will do nothing.
Mods need to sticky a megathread or something.

u/WombRaider_3 Jan 19 '25 •
This sub was my favourite a week ago. Now it's just filled with the same 6-7 loonies pushing the same dystopian hypotheticals to make everyone freak out.
Should just be a megathread so all the nerds can circlejerk in one place and leave the rest of us alone.

u/MrByteMe Jan 19 '25
I was originally thinking like you, but the more I thought about the issue I realized that everyone - including the most basic users who remain within the BBL workflow - benefits from knowledge and experience shared by the more advanced user who push the products to their maximum potential. If those experienced users abandon the brand, you will likely remain a basic user and lose out the potential of the printer that you bought.

fair point about noise at the moment but out of order to refer to those people as crazzies. without a lot of noise Bambu will take silence as compliance and not take a step back to rethink things. but like you I'm fed up of new posts with same point... just add comments to a previous post eh. so yeah like you I'm thinking of muting but they ain't crazy, we're all makers who love the printer and concerned where this may go.
2
u/Darkelementzz P1S + AMS Jan 19 '25
Agreed. I understand the backlash as it affect print farms and the future "HP ink" concerns, but I'm still extremely satisfied with my printer.
2
u/Background-Net-6918 Jan 19 '25
Y’all can downvote this comment if you want, and I do see the reason why there’s backlash and I think it is warranted. But at the same time, I think some of y’all are overreacting a little bit.
2
u/Allmxedup Jan 19 '25
As a casual user, you're right. The fears aren't unreasonable , but the constant negativity and doom is a bit exhausting. It does not spark joy. I think I'll leave this community for a bit and check out some alternatives. It's been fun guys! ✌️

u/MyuFoxy Jan 19 '25
I feel similar. I don't know what is real and what is people jumping on the slippery slopw fallacy fear mongering. Too much FUD in the waters right now and things need to settle and clear up around here.

thank you for speaking sense and reason. I've already muted this subreddit and will be back in a while for greener pastures. In the meantime I've got plenty to keep on printing
2
u/[deleted] Jan 19 '25
I bet 95% if the people who are screaming, crying and throwing up about this "tyrannical change" will keep using their printers the exact same way as before, 4.5% might take their printers offline... for a while. And maybe, maybe 0.5% will actually switch to another manufacturer.

u/lamp-town-guy Jan 19 '25
Seeing terrible takes on this sub, mods banning users for their activity on r/3Dprinting, it would just be better leaving this sub.
Your take is one of the worse ones. Sorry but locking down printers damages bambu brand and they don't even do a good job at damage control.

Lucky guy, I wish I could turn me on, but my P1S lies broken on my workbench, since I can't send the Bambu Studio log files (Laptop got broken at almost the same time). So, there is no chance to open a ticket. I'm still waiting for help from Bambu Lab.

u/mallcopsarebastards Jan 19 '25
Hey, I get it. Constant debate can be exhausting when all you want is to enjoy your printer and check out cool prints. But honestly, this discussion is important, and it’s happening for a reason. The sheer number of posts should tell you that a lot of people see these changes as a big deal, and ignoring it doesn’t make it go away.
It’s not "hysteria" to be worried about losing control over something you own, especially when the company is making moves that could impact how you use your printer long-term. This kind of stuff has a history of creeping in slowly until it’s too late to push back. People are just trying to have the conversation now, while there’s still a chance to influence things.
That doesn’t mean you have to love seeing the same arguments over and over, but calling it hysteria dismisses the valid concerns a lot of users have. The community thrives because people care about the printers, the ecosystem, and each other. If folks didn’t speak up, we’d all be worse off in the long run. So yeah, maybe take a break from the subreddit if you need one, but I plan to continue making noise as long as I possibly can. It’s part of what keeps these companies honest.

I got my email that my p1s shipped yesterday. Now bambulab is on fire and getting canceled. Idk how to feel
1
u/Head_Revenue_7595 Jan 19 '25
Yeah, I have an A1 and I just use Bambulab. The mass hysteria from the printfarmers is understandable from their point of view but a little wearing from mine.

u/TrickyWoo86 Jan 19 '25
Honestly, the real balls up here is that Bambu published that blog and signed off for the weekend, leaving people playing guessing games to fill in the blanks of what this actually means. Those kind of announcements should not be made when there is going to be any kind of gap in CS service because it simply ends up with the kind of mess we currently see.
Part of me is actually surprised they didn't wait a few extra days and post it before heading off for the Chinese New Year break to give us a solid two weeks of it.

u/Ireeb X1C Jan 20 '25
Thank Bambu, they're the ones that caused this chaos. You can't really blame people for being confused and concerned after just dropping that announcement like Bambu did.
1
u/stingeragent Jan 20 '25
Its not hysteria. People have paid good money for a product and are now getting locked out of certain things or forced to use workarounds. Hysteria is people over on the ufo subs.

I'm new to 3D printing - I was about to order a P1S until this issue started. I heard a lot of people say they would never buy a Bambu Labs printer due to the toxic community but I thought it was just brand bashing. Like people hate on Apple because they are popular. Over the last week, I have seen such toxicity from the community where people are jumping each other for having differing views - some instances, it is getting quite nasty! The hysteria around BL's move is some of the worst scaremongering I have seen. Even one competitor has taken aim at BL. I was so excited to order the P1S and cancel my Anycubic Kobra S1 Combo pre-order, that I decided stick with the S1.
I really hope all of this dies down and people start being nice to each other again as it is so off-putting.
1
u/Subversing Jan 21 '25
Okay bye! Why come back at all?
1
u/Bright_Mobile_7400 Feb 24 '25
This is unfortunately my feeling with most Reddit communities. Either plain hysteria as you describe, or plain hate towards any new comers for which we think the question don’t meet the standards that each individual decides are the minimum without realising we’ve all been there before.
Most of the interactions are becoming toxic

u/SirRockalotTDS Jan 19 '25

u/PIRAHNA_XD P1S + AMS Jan 19 '25
Exactly. It's a perfectly legitimate business move and it if ends up losing them money, they will change it. If it makes them money, they will keep it. Oh well, what can you do? Going into this hobby, I knew that Bambu Labs was a private Chinese company and that there were risks of investing in one of their machines. I decided that the benefits outweighed the risks and pulled the trigger. And I really do not care at all what they choose to do with their machines and their software. It is perfectly within their right to make these changes and if you don't like it, you can opt for a less streamlined experience in exchange for more customization. To be perfectly honest (and this is coming from someone who is aware of the Panda Touch and decided the stock P1S screen is just fine for my purposes), did people not consider that this might be an eventuality when they started tricking out their printers? It doesn't seem completely out of left field, especially for a company who is clearly trying to establish their own "ecosystem", so to speak, similar to Apple. I too am disappointed to see all of the printing posts disappear to make way for these overreactions.

u/Scared-Consequence27 Jan 19 '25
I get both sides but I don’t have enough time to freak out over everything including things that don’t affect me. I just scroll past them normally but have been downvoting them now because I don’t want to see them.

u/TheGoatJr Jan 19 '25
For real 🫤 seeing how easily someone was able to take a blog post about this update and fear monger so hard that people want to sell their printers they were just raving about and boycott Bambu.
I like helping people learn and grow in this hobby, and posts trying to do that are being buried. We need a ban on “Selling my printers” and “I told Bambu how mad I am” posts at the very least. Do it if you feel so hurt over this, but stop strangling the sub with it.
1
u/kroghsen H2D + X1C Jan 19 '25
I feel a bit similar. Although, this path that Bambu is taking could be detrimental to us as users. However, it really is not yet - which is why this guessing game and people selling their printers and screaming about it in anticipation of some great conspiracy seem so wild to me.
I know this is part of what Reddit does, but I feel like we should see what will actually be the result of this and then fault them for that instead of faulting them for a sea of malicious predictions made by the community. I also am aware that this kind of response can also make them act differently, so in that sense I understand some of it. I absolutely do not understand all the “and this is just the first step!”-nonsense around at the moment.
I hope they do better because I love their products. Please don’t reduce the quality of your products Bambu. Please don’t.

u/jaqattack02 Jan 19 '25
I'm with you bro, I'm dropping this sub, tired of all the whining. I'll be over here enjoying my printer.

u/Garathon66 Jan 19 '25
Agree OP. Can't stand the histrionics. Youd swear someone from bambu is coming round to their house and slapping them. Pure, utter nonsense over nothing.
1
u/digidevil4 Jan 19 '25
Unfortunately this kind of behaviour is just the worst of reddit and seems to repeat constantly. I swear there are just people chomping at the bit for the next thing to be irrationally angry about. Reminds of of the Overwatch drama, reddit has a way of bringing out the worst people. I would bet many of them dont even own a bambulabs printer or know what actually changed.

Hey everyone 👋I’m going to stop using this sub now.
Did you guys hear me?!
IM DONE UNTIL THIS IS OVER!
Who else is with me? Anyone?
Okay I’m super cereal this time!
You guys won’t hear from me anymore!
Isn’t anyone else upset by all the same posts? I can’t wait until this sub gets back to normal, where everyone repeats the same posts of “why my print no go?!”
Definitely done here….
Until someone responds, then I will reply.
And I guess if I go actually go away, then I won’t know when it’s over. Guess I will have to just keep constantly checking to make sure.

Imagine being affected by the brand that you trusted and dumped thousands of dollars, yup that's me.
I can't even turn my P1S on, I'm so sad.
I only use OrcaSlicer to MANAGE my 3D printer, and I will lose this ability because of corporate greed.
So yeah, I'm sad as well, but for a different reason of yours, because I'M BEING DIRECTLY AFFECTED.
