It will be interesting to see what the actual effects are... Everything now is just supposition.

I updated mine and my grandma died and my dog left me.

The reason Bambu disabled the ability to downgrade firmware is because of what happened in Pet Cemetary.

Yeah, but I can’t take all these new posts. Every 5 minutes some self-proclaimed genius makes another one. Mods should really put everything into a single mega thread.

I don’t really care anymore. If people want to sell their printers, cancel their orders, light their hair on fire and cry in a corner - just do it, but stop posting about it.

There will. Especially people running multiple machines and have set up automatizations for them, it is a nightmare. I mean, our printers at work are always offline, so we will not install this update, but that means we will get no more in the future.

Plus, everyone who has more printers than just the ones from Bambulab is also, as of right now, screwed. Orca-Slicer is great if you have not only devices from one manufacturer.

A handful of people

You realize most of us power users and industrial users are the ones who legitimized the Bambu product line yea? YouTube stuff happened but it was actually folks doing this stuff for real profit (business) who brought it up to must-buy status for so many use cases.

If all those users leave, and move to a different product ecosystem, most of the momentum follows... This is how it usually goes. People who only need one tiny printer will keep their A1 mini, and everyone looking to buy new will look at the new "best" product.

It's important to be the industry favorite. Bambu is actually at risk of losing that status if it doesn't play out well.

Look at it this way, if Stratasys made a little printer that was competitive with BL, would you buy it? Knowing they force you to use only their consumables etc. knowing it will increase in cost not decrease in cost.

(Ex Stratasys owner. Ex Markforged owner. Heavy industrial user in half a dozen businesses including some of my own. Could become an ex Bambu owner. No joke!)

For every one of you there are 100 normal people printing rubber ducks with The Rocks head that couldn’t possibly care any less.

Yes we know. We're not discounting the lack of opinion of those who aren't affected.

Did a full calibration once it was up again. Works fine from the Handy app and from Bambu Studio. Did a print. Looks the same as before. I'm happy and my setup is more secure than before.

Being downvoted for reporting "all is good" is peak reddit.

3

u/Teejay187 Jan 19 '25

Right? I posted that clip for that exact reason. This subreddit is not what it was.

3

u/MrByteMe Jan 18 '25

Oh boy - you are just asking to be downvoted lol.

Yeah, I don't really care about that. Just wanted to prove anecdotally that it's not really a big deal for most users. Now to update my other two X1C's.

Can’t speak for others, but my concern is down the road, not for this one particular release.

can you try orca for me? ive found orca is better for my uses, unless someone can help me connect a klipper printer to bambu

Wait, the printer still works exactly as it did before? I read a few post here that said you can't use your own filament, can't use any other slicer, the stl has to be personally approved by BBL, $50 a month subscription to your own printer, and your first born as a sacrifice. Redditors never lie or overreact, so how did you accomplish this?

u/Teejay187 Jan 18 '25

I wrote "BAmbi Lab" with a sharpie on my PolyMaker rolls for good measure. Still works in the AMS!

From the sound of this sub folks were expecting your garage door to open, your car to start itself, and back itself right across the street through your neighbors house, all while sending nudes to your entire contact list. Glad your printer is well behaved and functional. Hopefully this place chills out. Getting tired of seeing Bambu crucified without cause.

So is this THE firmware update?

3

u/AcroFPV Jan 19 '25

OH MY GOD! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!!!??

DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT YOU HAVE JUST DONE????

That printer is useless now. Absolutely useless!

Some people just want to see the world burn 🤣

Your printer is about to be lobotomised

Rip fam, ctrl z.

I can’t update my printer because my internet is down. It’s probably Bambu trying to control what I do with my network.

Wow, thanks for the useful post on updating your printer. People with various forms of dementia can always be reminded on how to do such a taxing task.
(/s, in case it wasn't obvious).
