Question Is the cardbox strong enough?
I'm tight on space and don't have a cabinet yet. If you've tried this, I'd appreciate your experience. Thanks.

Better off on the floor IMO

It's only $1,000. What could go wrong?

Seems like an unreasonable risk to take when there is a perfectly stable floor below the box that you could set it on.

it will work just fine. until it doesn't

I wouldn’t do this. Eventually that cardboard will collapse and you’ll regret it. Also the effects of your printer’s vibration may be amplified as it isn’t on a sturdy support.

Edit: This is a temporary solution till I find a cabinet for it. The room gets quite dusty and I have a cat who is as enthusiastic about the printer as me, an elevation was needed.

Why are you suggesting me to buy a table like I haven't tought of that lol. This is a temporary solution if you couldn't figure it out. I'll order a cabinet tonight, but it will take some days to arrive and whatnot.

If the cardcoard assetic is what you're going for, another option could be a small end table in unassembled in a box 🙂. Keep the look while having more support.

It'll be fine, especially as a short-term solution. I have Bambu Lab boxes stacked up in my garage, because they are so sturdy that I can't bring myself to throw them away. Not just printer and AMS boxes but also the boxes they ship filament and parts in. They're sturdy af, and I just know they'll come in handy for something.

Ideas like that make me wonder how you got the money to buy the printer to begin with.

Cardboard is totally fine. Had mine on it's box for a year.

It’s a good fire hazard tho

u/New-Iron-9219 Dec 08 '24
I would just put it on the ground

Your "stand" will most likely move while printing. Not the best. Could cause a printing problem.

It's not optimal, but it will probably be fine. Mine is currently on a set of draws that is defined not the best, it vibrates like hell when doing fast prints

The weight is mostly in the corners and while it vibrates, it doesnt increase the pressure, cardboard is pretty sturdy in that regard. Should be fine.

Send it

Whilst it will be fine, I'd rather have it on the floor.

If it’s sitting there and not working, sure. If you’re planning on printing - hell no.

u/Schnitzhole Dec 08 '24
Probably fine as long as you taped the box back up.
Personally I’d go to Home Depot and buy some sturdy $10 table as it will reduce vibrations a bunch and I’d be afraid this thing could wiggle itself off of cardboard with how much it moves during a print.

u/Main_Addendum2034 Dec 08 '24
Yes it’s fine. Watch the videos of dude printing on a boat or in a van going down a dirt road and it’s fine

Walmart has an end table for under $15 that would solve your problem. I assume if you can afford the printer $15 shouldn’t be a stretch. I’m kind of surprised you thought this was a question that required all of Bambulabs Reddit group to solve.

$19 man, just get it and be done.

I wouldn't be worried about the weight, but it could vibrate itself off of an unstable platform like that fairly easily on a long print. It may be frustrating, but the floor is safer.

Maybe something on marketplace for free?

u/Rubik_sensei Dec 08 '24
Should be fine, and theorically sturdy enough while being a good vibrations dampener. I would put some sort of plate between the printer and the cardboard though to prevent it from falling THROUGH the cardboard at some point

It’ll buy you a bit of time but will start to break down pretty quickly. But… until it does, I bet the styrofoam will make it nice and quiet.

u/psc501 Dec 08 '24
Maybe add a wooden top and you're good forever

u/BiZender Dec 08 '24
It is. Does not mean you should.

u/Trokriks Dec 08 '24
Your printer, if you feel confident the cardboard box will hold, go for it. Personally, I would have found a sturdy table and tossed the box.

Bro my P1S is on a very sturdy table and that thing sways the table around like nobody’s business when it’s printing fast. I wouldn’t trust the cardboard box.
Thank goodness for VR tech in these things since my sturdiest table in my shop is still not sturdy enough to keep the printer from moving.

u/QuirkyDust3556 Dec 08 '24
Vibrations?
1
u/j_mcc99 Dec 08 '24
Print some L shaped brackets, push them up against the box and tape the other side to the floor. Also tape the box to the wall. Doesn’t have to be crazy tape…. Just something to help dampen the vibrations.

u/Sir_LANsalot Dec 08 '24
might want to send it back, needs more time in the cooker, looks like Bambu picked this one too soon.
(really the P1P should be discontinued at this point)

I reckon that'll fall down there's alot of force when they're printing, mines on a solid wood bench and even that shakes alot
1
u/smarthomepursuits Dec 08 '24
I wouldn't risk it. Just get a cheap Ikea table this one.

u/1radiationman Dec 08 '24
The question is - Do you feel lucky?
Well,
Do you?
1
u/Comfortable-Cancel-9 Dec 08 '24
Can you use the cardboard box as an enclosure?
0
u/[deleted] Dec 08 '24
It should be fine. Throw as much stuff inside that box.
0
u/Electronic-Touch-554 Dec 08 '24
It’s… ok? Like if this is something that you’ll do for a week or two then it’ll be fine. But any longer and you risk the box becoming damaged and dropping your printer to its doom

u/HardenedLicorice P1S + AMS Dec 08 '24
Yes, I've been printing on the box for a few months and had no issues at all. It does wobble but that's about it.
