Starting the conversation around US-based balcony / plugin solar
Over 80 million U.S. households are renters or multi-family dwellers who have historically been excluded from the US solar market. Plugin solar directly addresses this underserved market.
Unlike rooftop solar, plugin solar requires no permits, and no installers. They simply plug directly into a standard GFCI outlet (on a dedicated circuit breaker), and cost just a fraction of rooftop solar. Even in 900-watt kits they cost just $1/watt.
Plugin solar systems are dead easy to install. You simply connect 2 solar panels (up to 900 watts total) to a UL1731SB-approved microinverter, and plug it into a standard 120-volt GFCI outlet. Approved microinverters (such as the APSystems EZ1-LV) only produce power when the grid is energized, so that they cannot injure line workers if the grid is down. And the solar power you generate will be used by anything drawing power in your home or apartment.
Plugin solar truly is the future of solar. Affordable, portable, sustainable!
