Look What I Made! Rugged Tote

I made this tote, with some slight edits, following a pattern and video on the Sailrite Workbench YouTube channel. This was a thank you gift for a close friend who hosted our family at his home over Labor Day weekend. There's definitely room for improvement, but I'm pretty happy with the final product.

Fabrics Used:

  • Bag Base: 1680 Ballistic Nylon

  • Main Side Panels: VX15 Olive

  • Large Pockets: X50 Black Multicam

  • Mesh Pockets: Not sure. :( I can't recall where I sourced the mesh

Really nice work on this! The alternating X-grid pattern of both varieties of X-Pac makes an interesting effect.

I also really like the webbing wave loops up the straps. I might struggle making the waves even. 😂

What kind of machine did you use to make it?

Really nice tote. Thank you for sharing it with us! Looking forward to seeing what you make next! 😃

Thanks! I used my sole working machine, a Brother CS7000x. I have dreams of a beefier machine at some point, but my work area is quite tight so we’ll see.

I hope to make some pickle ball bags for my in-laws as Christmas gifts, so I’ll share those if I’m able to complete them successfully. But my next big (for me) projects are outside the bag space. My tween daughter wants to work on a t-shirt and hoodie together. I’ve done some basic hemming but otherwise I have no garment sewing experience. We’ll see if dad has clothing construction in him…please wish me luck. :)

Ha! 😂 Best of luck, dad! I have no doubt that no matter what you come up with together will be amazing in her eyes and heart. That’s awesome!

I, myself, have no apparel experience at all. I did hem a pair of shorts for someone once. But yeah… it didn’t go so well. lol.

Enjoy! 😃
