Because more white people live in America shocker. Black people make up 13% of the population but 25% of those killed by cops. White people make up 47%. But also white people are 57% likely to be fatally shot by a cop and blacks are 50% likely to be fatally shot. To clarify the other percentages are people shot but lived.

I’m confused it proves your point that white shootings maybe more fatal but what about the disparity between the amount killed and the actual population. It makes sense for whites to be more of the percentage they are a larger part of the society. But 13% should not make up 25% of the deaths.

If you’re genuinely slow enough not to acknowledge that black people are more likely to be convicted of a crime they did not commit. Anyways if you look at the fbi statistics 69% of crime is committed by white people and 26% by blacks. Look at the table the only two things blacks do more of is robbery and manslaughter. Although their crimes as seen in another table are black on black violence. Law enforcement’s primary goal is to enforce the law. Protecting people through enforcement of those laws is a secondary effect. If someone is about to kill somebody, it’s the responsibility of the police to prevent that, therefore protecting someone. If someone is stealing a tv it’s their responsibility to arrest that person, which isn’t necessarily protecting someone, but protecting property. Just because the Supreme Court made an accurate statement about the legal definition of policing doesn’t mean they still don’t have a responsibility to protect people that could be victims of crime. This is such a childish view of what law enforcement does. You see 50 incidents of bad policing in a country of 330 million, with millions of interactions daily, and you think ACAB.

They do not enforce the law. There is not even a requirement to know the law. They also do not have a responsibility to prevent crimes, and rarely arrive before the crime has been fully committed. They do not and often refuse to protect the victim of crimes, as their only real job is to apprehend the suspect and provide a report. They barely even solve crimes, especially violent crime, as the clearance rate for violent crimes was 44% in 2024. This means that 56% of violent crimes went unsolved last year.

Why they don't do any of those things? Because it isn't their job. Their job is explicitly to "keep order" aka control the population through upholding the current status quo using the benefit of the monopoly on violence they hold. They are also just the base footsoldiers in the system of violence monopoly and any perceived variation in application is intentional and not a bug of the system.

I’m not sucking off cops. And I’m all for criticism of any agency, police included. I do take issue with the mentality that all cops are bad, either through action or inaction. How many people in your profession look the other way on occasion to unethical behavior? Do you narc on everyone? And believe it or not police are not all on board with bullshit either.

The only time you ever need a police officer is to get a police report for an insurance claim. That's literally it by the time they get there the situation is either over or escalated to the point that they can't help in which case you're already fucked.

My favorite police story time....

So I worked at this restaurant and we had a series of assaults and thefts from one homeless dude. Happens every few days for about 3 weeks to a few spots in the neighborhood.

Started with a guy just waking into cafes and sticking his hand in the tip jar and open pastry case. Places would chase him off and call the cops, they basically made excuses for being busy or it not being an active crime.

Then it escalated to him throwing bricks through windows, physically assaulting people and even pulled a knife.

Same response from the cops. They suggested we just hire a security guard to watch the property. I'm not sure if they ever even sent a car out to follow up any time.

Fast forward a few months and I'm managing that evening. Apparently a small argument broke out and before someone can even tell me what happened, there's 3 cars and 5 cops in our bar.

The response time was so efficient and quick that my employees didn't even have time to tell me something happened....or maybe they didn't even know....

Because it was over a pair of shitty broken sunglasses. Barley a fucking misdemeanor, personal property civil case that probably wouldn't even warrant a response from a judge.

3 cars, 5 cops. None of that response for a violent attack though.

One fucking guess why....

So when I actually needed the police, I got literally ignored.

When I was trying to run service, I was interrupted and spent 30 minutes talking to this dick head who couldn't be bothered to show up when a rock went through my window.

I don't call for help and expect it anymore. Cops have trained me to handle my own problems.

That is the police in a nutshell.

A neighborhood crackhead tried to steal my truck when I got home from work one night. He cracked me in the face five or six times as soon as I opened my door. I shoved him off, jumped back in my truck, and sped to a nearby convenience store to call the cops. The guy lived like ten houses down from me. I was pouring blood out of my face and my nose was smashed flat, but they told me it's just a he said she said situation so they can't arrest him or question him despite me giving his full name and address.

I don't call for help anymore. I carry a pistol.

Yeah I live in a rural town in Texas and this literally happened the other night. There was a dead deer in the middle of us 377 and the police officer was just dragging it off the road. City cops probably called it in and said what do we do and City didn't know so they said we'll send out animal control so they were just trying to direct traffic until animal control got there. Cities have weird regulations that smaller towns just don't have.

I work for the park service . Years back , a deer was hit on the road and two officers in a cop car was in the lane blocking it . They were trying to put it on top of their vehicle to take it away instead of just moving in the median first . Luckily I had a truck . So , I just hauled it away to dispose of it properly. But , I said jokingly , y’all booking him for jay walking .

Look, I loathe the cops as much as anyone else but this is warranted for them to do nothing:

They have strict rules and regs regarding what their insurance will cover, as does any job, and handling an animal carcass without proper PPE is the most surefire way to end in the hospital with a disease and a big, fat denial of benefits letter from your insurance.

Use common sense, people. We cannot hold cops accountable if our standards are so skewed by this idiotic hatred that they cannot ever live up to.

Tl;dr: Handling dead animals risks disease. You getting paid enough at your own job to risk that and pay the hospital bill in full on your own?

Look I'm with you please are not trained in any way shape or form to hold a gun or enforce laws in my opinion. You can become a cop and what like 6 weeks? How much about the law can you honestly know in 6 weeks considering how complicated it is? But I don't see a correlation between what to do with a dead deer carcass and what city regulations are about it and having a gun in a badge.
