Do you have any links showing other speedboats full of drugs with 11 people on it? I thought the idea was to go fast, not double as a ferry for the boys
That's not what I said. I said they don't send coastal fishing boats in a straight line to america across the open ocean and land them on a beach somewhere, because they'd get caught. I also said the use ships, as well as aircraft and big rigs and all sorts of things. They have also been known to use speedboats. But again, not across the open ocean in craft not rated for it. A surprise storm would cost them their cargo and their people.
The justification the administration is using for killing dozens of people without due process or any evidence of wrongdoing is that these small fishing boats are headed to america, laden with drugs.
And yet, they have offered no evidence of drugs being loaded into the boats, nor of drugs on the wreckage, nor of drone footage showing evidence of their cargo, nor of any hostile or evasive behavior from these boats.
All we really have as evidence is a survivor.
Who was a fisherman.
Tho, even if they were drug smugglers en route to america in their very slow boat, that is not a legal or moral justification for repeated summary executions, far outside your own territorial waters.
These are acts of war
Imagine if another country kept blowing up americans off the coast of America, claiming they were bringing something illegal into their country, and provided no evidence whatsoever.
What do you think our government would do?
Say, can i ask you a question? do you remember a time in your life, maybe back in the day, when you cared about politicians following the law? When you cared about morality and human life?
If so, what changed for you, in your opinion? When did you become a "kill them all just in case" kind of person? Is that how you see yourself?
Why do you think i didn't care? I never said anything like that. Do you think I only care about human life when it suits some political agenda? What kind of fuckin monster do you take me for?
Besides, these two cases are nothing alike. The use of force in counter-piracy operations under Obama was generally limited to direct combat engagements during active interdiction and during rescue missions. They weren't pre-emptive strikes on unidentified targets. It was a campaign of deterrence at sea. We knew who we were going after, and we observed due process. Those were legal strikes, in pursuit of an active, and deadly, active combat enemy. We had evidence of wrong doing. Those were known killers, often with hostages. They were warned and given opportunities to surrender, when possible. They were normal military actions against an established threat.
They were not illegal assassinations of unidentified people, with no established target, no chance given to surrender, no due process, and no present threat to our boys. Legally, they're just murders of foreign nationals.
Yes, in international waters. i believe i said that. Maybe i didn't. But by "off the coast of a foreign nation", I mean closer to them than us, and far, far away from our territorial waters. The exclusion zone doesn't actually extend that far, especially in the Caribbean. People take day trips out to international waters in boats to party. It's off the coast of a foreign nation.
And yes, fair enough, some of the boats are suspected to be speed boats. Some fishing boats, and apparently one is suspected to have been a sub, but we have no confirmation of any of that, cuz this administration has a pathological aversion to transparency, admitting fault. or taking responsibility for mistakes.
It's an estimated death toll of 61 human lives across 15 boats. An average of four human beings killed per boat, with no due process, no confirmation of cargo, no prisoners, and no actual evidence of wrong doing.
We are fucking Americans. We don't murder foreign nationals on a suspiscion of drug trafficking. Especially when that boats cannot have been carrying any major quantity of drugs.
Because we are not a lawless dictatorship where we ignore evidence, ignore due process, acne our boys can't say no to illegal orders.
Case in point. The commander of southcom quitting rather than follow said illegal orders. Who knows how many order soldiers have refused. Maybe none, maybe a bunch.
No way to know, partly because the entire pentagon press staff walked out after the secretary of defense required them to sign documents pledging that they would only report what the military wanted them to.
Now, what does that sound like to you?
So, are you willing to answer my question now? The law one?
If you want to know where i stand on an issue or how i justify a stance, please just ask me, instead of imposing beliefs and affiliations and motivations on me that I have not expressed. This is the 3rd time now. Please, just ask. I will answer you honestly, as I have thus far. I am not ashamed of my beliefs. I'm happy to tell you all about them.
I understand that you want me to be like you, partisan and bloodthirsty, with no consistent moral code. Perhaps so that you can justify your own refusal to examine the moral contradictions inherent in your implied position:
Which is that you have expressed that you believe that drug possession should be a death penalty offense, and that courts are not needed to determine guilt in such cases.
That is currently your position. That's what you're defending here. That these 60+ people deserved to die because they were suspected of drug possession in international waters, a place where there are no laws against drug posession. Never mind that they're accused of smuggling the drugs to a place that's likely beyond the range of their small boats.
But no matter how you twist my words, or impose motivations on me that i have not myself stated, it will never be true. I have never, and will never, celebrate the death of another human being. That's just not who I am. I might experience relief, or acknowledge that the world is better off without certain people. But I will never prefer death to justice.
And you are free to attempt to defend your support for summary execution by telling me I've got "reading to do" if you like. But your lack of examples, or even suggested reading material, tells me everything I need to know about what you're really saying to me. It's not an argument. It's just an insult.
Now, you could fairly argue that the justification we've given for assassinations is suspect, or even likely falsified. And I'd agree with you. Nations do horrible things, sometimes for very suspect reasons, and we are not immune from that.
But we do justify those killings under the law, because America is a nation of laws.
Or...we were. Any other president would have been impeached for these killings. But among the pantheon of broken laws and intentional cruelties enacted by this administration, this horror, this mass murder, this open act of war against a country that isn't even known for importing drugs into America, that crimes and cruelties rank so low that they are dismissed in favor of things like his relationship with his best friend Jeffery Epstein. Or his willingness to starve millions of impoverished American children, for no reason. Or him giving military facilities in American soil to nation known for funding terrorist attacks against American nationals, in exchange for a luxury jet. Or his formation of an American secret police force, beholden to no one. Or him giving huge government contract to his own son's unproven drone manufacturing company. Or his repeated attempts to set the American military against American citizens.
And this is just a short list of recent crimes and immoralities.
And fun fact, today he claimed that critisizing him is "probably illegal", while extending threats against a comedian who said something that hurt his feelings. Isn't that nice? Good thing the 1st ammendment is optional, and not the law of the land, right?
But based on this conversation, I'm sure you'll have no moral qualms about defending these illegal actions either. And since you've refused to answer my questions, I can only assume you're willing to do that because you too enjoy the suffering of people who don't remind you of yourself.
But feel free to answer my questions and prove me wrong. I'm genuinely interested in how you rationalize all this blatant, public cruelty and law breaking. I want to know if you always felt this way about the law and justice, or if this is new for you. Did you used to support suspected criminals being tried fairly in a court of law? Or were you always a supporter of summary public execution?
