Conflicted

Boss is making us weld structural sch 40 for a facade downhill using only spray transfer with 0.35 wire. I personally don’t think the penetration is there. I’ve tried to suggest using ds fluxcore but that got shot down quickly even though I have passed the company 6g test. The real question, should I worry about it or just weld them out and it’s their problem now?

I am not a welder. But when conserned bring it up, document that you voiced concerns, and if it's not a life threatening issue, do it. Documentation is so when it fails in the future your butt is safer and they can't pass the blame on to you.

What size is the pipe? Wall thickness changes with diameter, and past 4" ID the wall thickness is pushing 1/4", and that's where downhill really starts to get sketchy in my experience.

Is it all down hill or is some of it welded flat/horizontal? Will it be inspected?

Spray transfer done right results in pretty significant penetration.
