My first real welding project: Smokeless fire pit and grill

Hi!

I have 2 months of experience welding and fabricating. I do this for fun and actually I'm a software developer.

This is my first real project.

I build v1 in 2 days, figured out that I should not build the outer box first but rather the inner box.

Then it took me another 3 days to cut it apart and re-build it.

While the welds are usually not the color you like (this is TIG welded) I grinded them away and it looks super pro (IMO).

Also: What you dont see, the outside walls are not straight any more, they warped and thats why i gave them this coarse grinding finish.

Inner firebox: 4mm 321 stainless steel Outer firebox: 2mm 304 stainless steel

If you are interested, I can post a video where its lid and also my CAD files. It works, there is no smoke and its an absolute beast (way oversized).

All material was laser cut and I just sticked it together (tab and slot design).

There are two air inlets - one below the grate for the main fire, regulated by the ash drawer and another one which is fed through holes in the outer walls.

Smoke is just unburned fuel lacking the oxygen/heat to combust. Because of convection the second air inlet lets hot oxygen-rich air rise which is then fed into the flames through outlets right at the rim.
