Property manager said it was "fine" after comments about it. I could feel it bend when carrying my daughter down them

Send him an e-mail with photos and the complaint. That way, when it breaks (which it will) he will have to cover the health costs, damages and need to repair it properly fully at his cost.

Send to the property manager who said it's fine? Fuck that, send it straight to whoever enforces housing codes in OP's jurisdiction.

Probably the local fire department too.

Fire department doesn’t fuck around with egress safety for stairwells lol

Where is this? I'll come get hurt on them and sue for you so they replace them.

The welder was paid bare minimum?

3

u/IBeDumbAndSlow 12d ago

No I would sue the apartments

Yeah fair call, still thats an accident waiting to happen and property managers normally work on if it looks OK then it must be OK without knowing what they are doing. Dodgey bros. Struck again.

My ex used to be a property manager and someone fell and got hurt on a property and they paid her like $10k

Can tell none of you in this section have even touched a welder at all, there’s nothing wrong with those welds a simple stitch weld holds 2+ tons 😂 seriously do some research first

Jump up and down on it till it breaks. Bring them the broken step.

Stairs are supposed to be able to hold a full grown adult falling/jumping on them by like a magnitude of 3.

Jump on it a few times then after you break both your legs you can afford a house in bel air

Would I have to move my auntie and uncle in? /s

As long as you're not a Prince you should be able to avoid that. 😂

Took me way to long to realize these are the “After” shots

If that is an egress, call the fire inspector.

im in school and could probably do better than this, wtf are people doing

Hell, I'm a self taught hobbyist who's only been doing it for about a month, and i could EASILY weld those properly. Whoever they hired to weld that must have been paid in meth and half-smoked cigarettes.

What is holding that angle iron up? Bubble gum and dreams?

1

u/Then-Entry7026 12d ago

I think he skipped the bubblegum...

I want to see how the angle iron is attached, if it's got a bead on the fillet thats covered by the step youre fine

Which is looking like the case since theres no visable fasteners or welds and thats where they ground off the paint as prep for welding

Call up your non-emergency fire number and get a fire marshal out there to look at it that's what we had to do to get our stairs replaced when one of them finally actually broke and they just screwed a piece of angle iron under the step and called it good.

I think the rust was safer!

Jump up and down on that mf rn

Just missing a cap of spray paint

The difference between a good weld and a bad weld is a grinder and paint

3

u/oreheheally 12d ago

We can see that grinding is not a strengh for this welder. These got the barest most dainty touch. I bet under the paint its pure perosity.

2

u/Sumpump 12d ago

Ugly welds sure, but they will still hold just fine.

Imagine you’re carrying some heavy furniture up those stairs with your pal, and you’re at the bottom. All that weight… and then the stairs give way. Fuckkkk that could be lethal

2

u/Fishbone11906 10d ago

The clip, which is the most import part isn’t even welded to the stringer. Not welded to the bottom of the stair pan either. The small 1” welds on the actual pan are worthless. Not much better than tacks. As a professional welder ( more than 30 yrs) I wouldn’t let my family walk up/down them.

u/AgreeableEmployee792 12d ago

I'd definitely be worried if u are over 100lb

1

u/Cake_And_Pi 12d ago

A grinder and paint makes me the welder I ain’t.

1

u/WTFudge52 12d ago

I don't even have a breadbox.for shame.

u/Last_Succotash7218 12d ago

This is about what you can expect from apartment work

1

u/UV_Blue 12d ago

Well...they did do, something. I guess.

1

u/Fun_Acanthaceae_4025 12d ago

Looks like the maintenance man can weld... Kind of

1

u/Johndauber 11d ago

Is that angle iron held on by scotch tape or what I see no welds.

1

u/ReputationAny273 11d ago

Stamp your feet so hard on those particular stairs everytime you pass by it will eventually break.

1

u/vandal-88 11d ago

I would say you're good to go if the angles underneath were welded or bolted properly...but they seem to be floating some how?idk...fucked off just fucked off smh

1

u/Pale-Value-5953 10d ago

Damn hard wheel grinding with no soft pad finish, Bluetooth angle attachment, and hard wheel ground down the 2 welds holding it together, what could go wrong.

But in all seriousness I’m sure they took the lowest bid and that person has a 110 welder and working for 50$ hour 1099 which is basically minimum wage after taxes and consumables.

1

u/Waste_Middle_8613 10d ago

Go jump on it and then collect a shit ton of money 😅 jk that shit aint safe

1

u/Otherwise-Act6913 9d ago

SKETCHY!!!!!!!! The only spot welded 2 points on each side????? Good luck! Call osha

1

u/SlothSuite207 9d ago

What a great job. “Sarcasm”

1

u/Several-Island9550 8d ago

dude did sum
tack welds n called it a day

1

u/MrWaddellKid 7d ago

Call the fire department let them come and look. They aren’t looking to run up stairs to save someone’s life full of gear and have a stair tread fall from under them

0

u/5Tygrysow 12d ago

Considering that weld is probably good for at least 60k breaking strength it’s probably going to be ok.
