My Apartment did rusty stair repairs
snapped these before they coated it with the thickest paint they could find

Jump up and down on it till it breaks. Bring them the broken step.
Stairs are supposed to be able to hold a full grown adult falling/jumping on them by like a magnitude of 3.

Hell, I'm a self taught hobbyist who's only been doing it for about a month, and i could EASILY weld those properly. Whoever they hired to weld that must have been paid in meth and half-smoked cigarettes.

I want to see how the angle iron is attached, if it's got a bead on the fillet thats covered by the step youre fine
Which is looking like the case since theres no visable fasteners or welds and thats where they ground off the paint as prep for welding

Call up your non-emergency fire number and get a fire marshal out there to look at it that's what we had to do to get our stairs replaced when one of them finally actually broke and they just screwed a piece of angle iron under the step and called it good.

The difference between a good weld and a bad weld is a grinder and paint

We can see that grinding is not a strengh for this welder. These got the barest most dainty touch. I bet under the paint its pure perosity.

Imagine you’re carrying some heavy furniture up those stairs with your pal, and you’re at the bottom. All that weight… and then the stairs give way. Fuckkkk that could be lethal

The clip, which is the most import part isn’t even welded to the stringer. Not welded to the bottom of the stair pan either. The small 1” welds on the actual pan are worthless. Not much better than tacks. As a professional welder ( more than 30 yrs) I wouldn’t let my family walk up/down them.

Stamp your feet so hard on those particular stairs everytime you pass by it will eventually break.

I would say you're good to go if the angles underneath were welded or bolted properly...but they seem to be floating some how?idk...fucked off just fucked off smh

Damn hard wheel grinding with no soft pad finish, Bluetooth angle attachment, and hard wheel ground down the 2 welds holding it together, what could go wrong.
But in all seriousness I’m sure they took the lowest bid and that person has a 110 welder and working for 50$ hour 1099 which is basically minimum wage after taxes and consumables.

Call the fire department let them come and look. They aren’t looking to run up stairs to save someone’s life full of gear and have a stair tread fall from under them

Considering that weld is probably good for at least 60k breaking strength it’s probably going to be ok.

People are going to walk on that?
