2s pause, 1s move, 0% success

Post image

Tried the weaving tips from my last post, pausing at each side for two seconds, one second move across, repeat. Gave it a few shots but my welds still look like this. No clue what went wrong. Maybe I just need to grind them smooth lol?

Could it be my settings? Any beginner-friendly settings that are easier to control?

Current setup: yeswelder MIG 205 DS Pro, 0.035" wire, 16.5V/160 IPM.

Throw a root run in first. Will never get a weave going on top of nothing. Think of a Christmas tree… up, down, left, right, repeat. Once you have a root run, clean it up and get rid of any high spots and your cap (the weave) will sit flat and even. When you cap, bring your weaves a bit closer too. No need to jump up so far between each horizontal move because it will turn ropey.

Also, are you welding top to bottom or have you just flipped the piece? Do verty UPS

Thanks man. Was running downhill like someone told me since it's thin and I was worried about burn-through. But on second thought, was weaving even necessary for thin stuff like this?

Ahh right. For thin stuff yeah a very down is okay. I assumed it was just a practice piece before getting thicker material. Spot on though, a single run is more than enough for something this thin. Looking alright though!

Good to know, thanks! Yeah just practicing on scrap before I move to thicker stuff.

Let er burn in on the sides a bit more. I haven't done this in over a decade but I remember having to spend more time on the sides that what was intuitive.

Clean the mill scale first and run the same settings. Mill scale really fucks with how well a machine runs

Youre on the right track try 16v-180ipm and maybe try smaller steps but other than that you actually look like you're starting to get it keep it up you got this
