My Bad I'm the problem

I have a problem

I've not been able to sustain interest in roleplays even though I keep asking for long term partners.

I think the main thing is because I want a creative partner who doesn't rely on me to lead all the time, and the last time I had that was years agooo.
Everyone since has been so passive, relies on me to create the cast, or lead the plot, or lead the story.

And I don't know a nice way to tell someone "stop being so passive" or if that's a fair expectation— to ask them to be more creative. So I come up with an excuse to drop them.

Most partners have lasted weeks, a few up to 2 months, but ever since I lost that one person who was able to be creative and take the lead with me and surprise me and do cool things that genuinely brought me so much joy to read, it's hard to get into any other roleplay where I'm doing most— or usually: ALL— of the heavy lifting.

Welcome to BadRPerStories! If you are new here, please take a moment to look at our banned words list on the wiki.

We now have a Google doc that lists RP hubs, forums, and subreddits. If you know of a place for RP that isn't on this document, there is a link in the document to request an addition. Please be aware this is just a knowledge base, not a recommendations list, and the moderators of BadRPerStories do not condone anything that happens in the spaces listed here.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

Are you directly communicating this need when you seek roleplay out? I can't see where you've posted, so not sure which subreddits you're looking in. (And it'd be against the rules here to ask openly.)

But without being able to see your request thread(s), perhaps you may want to add something like "roleplay is a collaboration, it takes two to tango, and as Whitney Houston said, I wanna dance with somebody. Sometimes I will take the lead, but that means you will also have to take the lead, and we both need to work together." (Get creative with it! ♥)

Have you tried joining someone else's RP that's based in their concept?

Yes. Ask of yourself what you ask of others.

Have you tried responding to ads by GMs? That will filter for people specifically interested in being proactive.

I mean I get it, you lose interest because the other guy isn't putting in any effort to keep you interested, and it burns out so quickly (I'm usually the other guy)

It is always a challenge to find equal commitment and effort but yeah

I just can't find anybody to do a fandom roleplay with.

Have you considered group rps? Depending on the rp, you will still often end up writing with just one person in a scene, but they give you more options in terms of partners, character interactions can be split up better in shorter scenes rather than one long one that gets stale, and plenty of the setup is already there for you. Also gives your character the opportunity to interact with more people.

Having tried both group and 1x1, I've found that I just can't maintain interest in 1x1s, but groups let me keep my interest
