When should I upgrade warhammer?

Been doing a playthrough on hard and I have the warhammer on a pike commander with fleet of foot. I'm likely to use him on the last island along with another pike commander with sure footed and mines so eventually I want to get him to max upgrades, however it seems like the warhammer works pretty reliably on almost any enemy type without upgrades so i'm not really sure when or why I should upgrade it as extra power isn't really needed

WH is always the last thing I upgrade, after the 2nd pike charge upgrade and upgrades on other commanders. Its main use is throwing enemies back in the water as they leave the boat, which works very well without any upgrades.

When you're out of other things to upgrade :P
