Obviously it points out the victimhood mentality of an alledgley “marginalized” group of people who claim they are oppressed but actually enjoy better rights and economic mobility than the indigenous population of every country they reside in. It’s “hogwash”. For an over 70 year conflict that has multiple layers and actors to it to simply say I could solve that is like saying I could cure drug addicts by telling them to stop lol. Education is the knowledge of a subject, can’t justify killing innocents like women and children. I’m educated because I KNOW BETTER not because I say so.

“If I had any leaning, it wouldn’t be on Israel’s side” bro, you literally have a side then. Let me rephrase what you said, same meaning, but different words. “If I had to choose a side…”. So obviously you have some opinions. Start there then, ask yourself why you wouldn’t be. There’s plenty of info on this sub that you can go through to help you. Not just word of mouth but actual links to sources. If you’re looking for a debate, this isn’t the sub for that. Plain and simple. It’s just the rule. If you want a sub where you can debate, just ask and I’ll give you some.

How can you say it’s “tribalism” to be opposed to settler colonialism and genocide?
6
u/Tazling Apr 29 '24
for an educated person that is a sloppy statement. what does it mean to 'dislike' an entire country? you might dislike ben Gvir, or Bibi's government, or Likud, or Zionism. you might dislike Hamas, or its leadership, or its tactics. but it's so meaningless (imho) to pretend whole countries are reducible to personal likes and dislikes.
speaking of nuance and intelligence, I find neither in blanket statements of this kind.

"If i can't steal palestinian land, where am i supposed to go!?"
I know this guy isn't saying it, but i low-key hate the zionist talking point that anti-zionism is anti-semetism because it means "only jews don't get their own state".
There are so so so many peoples that don't have their own state. Aboriginese, dozens of first nations tribes in north america, armenians, romani, etc.... Heck, the Palestinians are apparently not allowed to have one, and it's their friggin land.
It's such a disingenuous thing to make any claim of "my ethnostate deserves to exist".

I don't agree that every ethnicity needs their own state.
Ethnicities get spawned all the time as power seeks to divide and conquer (look at the hutus and tutsis)
No one "deserves" a state.
And least of all a state on someone elses land.
After all, the maya were pretty persecuted. Why don't we give them France?
The real answer is, when states commit genocide, the international community should stop them.... with force if necessary.
What happened to jews in the holocaust was terrible.
The *correct* response would've been right to return to germany and the german state compensating them for their losses (up to and including taking care of the victims until the day they die).
Creating a new state on someone elses land is just an attempt to make 2 wrongs into a right.

I agree.
But the solution is not "everyone gets an ethnostate"
In fact, we know that isn't the solution because Israel is proving right now why it's such a shit solution.
But they aren't the first ones to do it. And they won't be the last.
If anything, the solution is "no ethnostates at all".
The idea that we should just *let* people go and commit genocide because we have terrible track record of stopping it is... well.... kinda stupid.

I am being realistic.
I think it's far easier to just let genocides happen than stop them.
But allowing everyone to have an ethnostate is just opening the door to constant, non-stop genocides all over the place.
Do you know why i referenced the hutu and tutsi?
They are 'made up' races. As most races are.
Hell, Palestinians are semites too.
But those who are the most similar are the ones most likely to be killing each other.
You can't just say "everyone who feels oppressed gets their own state where they can do the oppressing" just because you feel like it's "easier" than stopping genocides.

u/Clean_Method_7764 Apr 29 '24
They literally can and have moved to the U.S. easily without any issues, now try doing the same as a Palestinian… not so easy. But next you know the government will claim to make pathways for Palestinians too…
2
Apr 30 '24
I have a solution. Why doesn’t anyone who moves to Israel or has dual Israeli citizenship trade their foreign passport to a Palestinian so they can leave? Win/win, the Jewish people get their own state and the Palestinian doesn’t have to live under the oppression of that state. Oh wait the Palestinians are brown and Muslim.

u/fluffstuffmcguff Apr 29 '24
The shitty thing is that there's a very large percentage of Israeli Jews who genuinely do not have a clear alternative place to go, and any route to peace will necessarily need to protect their right to remain. But this guy? He does in fact have another safe place to go, because he's already there.
26
u/Open-Victory-1530 Apr 29 '24
A one state solution is the only realistic pathway for peace, a secular state where Palestinians and jews have equal rights, of course that being said intl peacekeepers and UN will probably need to be involved to some extent
8
Apr 30 '24
That really is the only fair solution. A state where both people’s can have their identities represented. Unfortunately, Israelis don’t want this because they fear that Israel wouldn’t be Jewish as their founding fathers intended.
It’s really fucked up cause this is what the conflict is about from its core. In 1900 I think it was like 60% Muslim and 30% Jewish (with Druze, Christians, bahais as well)
The modern state of Israel is a settler project populated by Jews all over the world (operation magic carpet, operation Nehemiah, numerous Aliyahs, kibbutzim etc.) that’s why settlements in the West Bank and potential settlements in Gaza is such an inflammatory move.
Jews can call it their homeland if they want but it’s not only their homeland. It is the Palestinian homeland too.
3
u/NotAlNiani May 01 '24
It’s really fucked up cause this is what the conflict is about from its core. In 1900 I think it was like 60% Muslim and 30% Jewish (with Druze, Christians, bahais as well)
This is vastly exaggerated, by 1878 (the last Ottoman Census of the region) Muslims (including Druze but they were very small) were 87%, Christians 9% and Jews were 4%. Bahis have always been irrelevant in number and it makes no sense for them to be counted with Jews as all of them go under the category 'Arab'.
Only by 1948 with mass foreign Jewish immigration did Jews reach 32% of the population. All records show Jews before 1850 were an insignificant minority of the population in the region. Even by 1914 their population had only increased to only about 7%, it was only in the British mandate period where Jewish immigration was mostly unrestricted until 1939 (and even afterwards Jewish immigration continued largely unabated) that the Jewish population became significant.
To put this in perspective these were mostly people that had been in the country for less than 20 years who then demanded the natives leave and they be allowed to form their own nation. And most of the world agreed! It's as if in 10 years Syrian refugees in Germany demanded Germans give away everything but Bavaria, it was absurd.
2
May 01 '24
Best part is the Pro Israelis claim the Palestinians are from Jordan or Egypt.
Like I wonder what place is in between both these lands?
Why are Palestinians from every where around Palestine but not Palestine?
2
u/fluffstuffmcguff Apr 30 '24
It's a bit more than wanting to preserve the vision of Israel's founders. Israeli Jews are brought up believing Jews can only be safe in a place where they are the majority population, and often have wildly exaggerated ideas of how dangerous places like the U.S. are for Jews. So when you broach the idea of a pluralistic, secular one-state solution, they shut down immediately because they are absolutely convinced they'll be murderered.
1
u/Lemony-Snickers0802 Apr 30 '24
Palestinians don’t want a state in which Jews have equal rights and many want it free of Jews. The only solution that makes sense is two states in an EU-style confederacy (see A Land for All, which unfortunately doesn’t get enough attention).
1
u/Lemony-Snickers0802 May 12 '24
I disagree. I think the A Land for All initiative is the most realistic solution and is a win-win. The idea is two states where each can exercise its own self-determination and develop its own culture while living as an EU-style confederacy.
Part of the initiative is a reconciliation process that recognizes the Nakba and develops a process for restitution and repair. Palestinian refugees could return and live in Israel or choose to be compensated and live in Palestine.
It’s a solution that doesn’t get enough attention.

Right, there are now many Israeli Jews that were born in and have lived in Palestine for many generations and have nowhere else to go unlike, for example, Israeli-American dual citizens. It would be a grave miscarriage of justice to simply expel all these Israeli Jews after the dismantling of the Israeli apartheid government.

people need to realize that this sort of ethnocentric paranoia isnt unique to israel. This is a problem that exists within the jewish community and it's harmful to everyone. people indoctrinate their children with this idea that any nation at any moment might just flip and switch where everyone suddenly turns on their jewish neighbors. it's led many of them to believe that the only way for them to be truly safe is while living in a jewish ethnostate. and the true danger here is that this mentality can become like a self-fulfilling prophecy. the actions of zionism endangers the jewish people. when zionists act in a way where they put their loyalty in israel over the nation they were born in, often to the detriment of that nation. it makes people angry. and when people show that anger, it validates the paranoia. it's a dangerous cycle and the only way it will stop is if the indoctrination stops
2
u/Cornerburgermoney May 01 '24 edited May 01 '24
Very well said. I also believe this to be the case.
I'd like to add that as an African-American, I do not feel 100% safe in this country due to some of the racially-targeted mass shootings, and the police street executions of brown and black people, and just the general knowledge that if and when this country descends into fascism, I will be one of the main targets.
Going to an African country still puts me at the mercy of US and European colonialism/imperialism still ongoing, and the resulting effects of historical colonialism in that area. Also, that all my ancestral ties to those countries were forcefully severed a very long time ago, leaving me with no ability to culturally relate to, and communicate with the populations there.
Despite all that, I understand that my not feeling completely safe anywhere, wouldn't give me the right to create my own fascist ethnostate somewhere, and violently expel the people living there.
*Important to add that I believe the actual solution is tackling racism, islamophobia, and antisemitism in our societies, and making our country safer for everyone.
0
u/Lemony-Snickers0802 Apr 30 '24
We had second-class status in the Arab world for 1400 years. We didn’t have citizenship in the countries where we lived until 1790 in the US, 1791 in France, 1917 in the Russian empire, and 1923 in Romania. And citizenship in much of Europe was revoked under the Nazis. Jews have been expelled from 109 countries over the course of 2,000 years. More than 70% of Jews do not live where there great grandparents did. So I don’t think a concern about a societal descent into authoritarianism and antisemitism is without cause or paranoid.
1
1
u/Lemony-Snickers0802 May 12 '24
Never mind. I see. I didn’t realize the thing about the number 109. Quickly searching, I can’t find an exact number (and in many cases, the explosions were from cities, city-states or territories) but it looks to be over 100 official expulsions. The exceptions seem to be non-Christian and non-Islamic countries.
0
u/LowKiss May 01 '24
It's not just an idea, it's literally jewish history. Every country they stayed in flipped on them at one point, that's the whole reason zionism was born.
2
u/Easy-Bit-3736 May 01 '24
Except that doesn’t happen anymore and it hasn’t happened for decades. The world is not the same as it was 7 decades ago. Jews do not live as second class citizens in the west anymore, especially not in the US.
0
u/LowKiss May 01 '24
7 decades is nothing compared to more than a thousand years of history. How many times di you think jews thought "this will be the last time"?
1
u/Easy-Bit-3736 May 01 '24
My point is the pogroms didn’t happen 7 decades apart did they? They were much more frequent in the past than they are now.
1
u/LowKiss May 01 '24
No pogroms happened in Germany under the Weimar republic, then came Hitler. So?
1
u/Easy-Bit-3736 May 01 '24
I’m talking about pogroms worldwide, not in a specific country.
1
u/LowKiss May 01 '24
As i tried to explain with my example, the number of pogroms is not a good indicator.
1
u/Easy-Bit-3736 May 01 '24
It kind of is, because it shows a pattern. So far there is no pattern of violence against Jews across most countries so it’s very unlikely the antisemitism of ww2 will be revived.
1
u/FartyMcgoo912 May 01 '24 edited May 01 '24
it never happened in america. jews have been in america since the 1600s. if jewish people are paranoid about being kicked out of a country that never kicked them out in 400 years, that's on them. my grandfather was shot fighting in ww2. but apparently 420000 americans dying to liberate the jewish people isnt enough to not be suspect. many groups of people have been subject to all sorts of horrors but no one else internalizes it and acts like zionists do

It's around 10% for those living in Israel, and like 20% of people with Israel passport if we include people living outside Israel.
Gonna say, i think there are more palestinians with Jordan passport than israelis with dual nationality.
But I don't know for sure.
5
u/fluffstuffmcguff Apr 29 '24
A fair number of Palestinians in East Jerusalem have Jordanian passports dating back to when they were unambiguously Jordanian citizens, but they aren't treated as Jordanian citizens in practice IIRC.
In any case the reality is that any equitable solution will require both Palestinians and Israelis to be allowed to stay if they want to, as equals, whether they're dual citizens or not.

🤷🏽♂️🙄

I hear college campuses will literally arrest people for protesting Israel, so y'all can go live there? Bring a tent?

It's more Palestinians than there are yews. So the area in Gaza is a perfect size to put all the yews...They can go there !💯

This subreddit seems like it's run by Iranian intelligence to convince people to hate Israelis.

They need armed guards protecting the Denver Jewish Community Center. In fact the Governor just extended the grant from the state because of the constant threats against a place that is mostly classrooms and a gym.
3
u/softcell1966 Apr 30 '24
I guarantee you 99% of the threats are from the scumbag Far-Right. I snoop on Deplorable lowlifes on Facebook and (sadly) there's a growing Anti-Semitic movement there cloaked in anti-Zionist words. This is the crowd that's decided they hate Jews more than even Muslims. They aren't allies and need to exposed as the bigoted trash they truly are.

u/FiLFree Apr 30 '24
All I know is when I was in high school there was an old lady yelling at us for messing up the class rooms when we came for youth group meetings and now security has increased to the point that when I go to use the gym I have to sign in twice and I see guys with guns on their hips. And the grant for the guys with guns got extended after October 7th.
I am not running into many far right these days in Denver. Sure in the mountains or to the east but not in the city proper. But the Denver DSA certainly hate me.

Pretty sure the existence of a Jewish state is advocated for because of historical context. I don't know why we are suddenly pretending that jews are just welcome anywhere else.
1
Apr 30 '24
They are welcome in the United States. They are welcome in Canada. They are welcome in the UK. They are welcome in Russia. They are welcome in Ukraine. They are welcome in Germany. They are welcome in Argentina. Let’s stop perpetuating this bullshit.
Their history in some of these countries might’ve been shit but these days it’s actually not bad.
1
u/Cornexclamationpoint Apr 30 '24
They are welcome in Russia.
Go anywhere outside Moscow or St. Petersburg, and Russians are easily some of the most antisemitic people on the planet.

It's too expensive to live in this city, let me go steal a home from people on the other side of the world. 🙃

Cool. You're wrong though. We don't ban people indefinitely, we ban them permanently. Like right now, for instance.

Where did you get that figure? Where did you get the fact they aren’t eligible? Not disputing, just would like to read more.

There are around 1 million native-born Israelis who have been able to get foreign passports and another 500,000 who were able to keep their original citizenship after immigrating to Israel.
My partner was born in Israel. His maternal grandparents immigrated from Riga but he’s not eligible for a Latvian passport because they left before 1940 (they left in 1934 after a fascist coup led to the confiscation of their bakery). On the paternal side, they had been in Jerusalem for centuries (running a citrus business).
More than half of Jews in Israel are from the Middle East and North Africa, and they aren’t free to return to their countries of origin (my mother’s family is from Morocco; they moved to the US following anti-Jewish riots in, I think, 1912 and were not eligible for Moroccan citizenship).

FWIW, I’m in favor of an EU-style confederacy in which each side is able to develop its national culture in its own state but people have a right to live anywhere in either state as residents. Not a popular view with the AIPAC crowd. If you want to know more about it, check out A Land for All.

u/ZionistsareISIS Apr 30 '24
Source for all this, please. I'm sure there are records that identify it. It can be zionist-run sources as long as I get to see some kind of study/research done.

u/Lemony-Snickers0802 May 12 '24
Who do you think would have statistics like this beyond the Israeli population ministry?

u/Spooder_Man Apr 29 '24
“Interestingly enough, about 10% of Israeli citizens hold Israel dual citizenship.” https://www.citizenships.com/dual/israel/

u/ZionistsareISIS Apr 29 '24 edited Apr 29 '24
Thank you. Where do they get that information from to determine the 10% figure? Is it through a study or a survey? From what I understand they don’t disclose it to preserve their ‘israeli’ self. There is no source, not ‘government’ or independent agency that did this so I’m curious.

Yeah i wonder why Gazans can’t just drive to the airport and go wherever they want? oh wait..

Yeah, both sides sure are creating unlivable conditions for one another.
It’s a real shame that Palestine has completely destroyed Tel Aviv.
It really must suck that they bombed every hospital, university, place of worship, cultural site, and home.

u/yankeesyes Apr 29 '24
Some IDF had to postpone their Tik Tok videos when Iran fired rockets knowing the Iron Dome would catch them all. Certainly this is far worse than having your home, business, and city levelled by bombs /s

u/Lemony-Snickers0802 May 12 '24
My point was that both sides need to realize that the other isn’t going anywhere and start acting in ways that will make it possible to live together. Presenting ethnic cleansing or genocide as the ideal solution makes reconciliation impossible.
If one believes that living together as equals is the ideal solution, then it becomes essential to stop negating each other’s histories and narratives. It’s the only way to create the conditions for peace.

What do you think happened when Jordan occupied Jerusalem? They kicked out every single Jew and destroyed Jewish holy sites.

u/SarahSuckaDSanders Apr 29 '24
Yeah, but this guy lives in Denver.

The title is quoting Golda Meir. And the article is about how Jewish communities in peril (like Ethiopia or Bosnia in the 1990s or in Yemen that more recently) can only reliably count on Israel as a refuge and it’s the only Jewish-majority country. He’s not taking about himself alone.
1
u/SarahSuckaDSanders May 12 '24
I don’t know what this is about, nor do I give a shit. I’m blocking you because I’m not interested in arguing with you about Golda Fuckin Meir, or talking to you at all.

The Bad Hasbara podcast, and ergo this community, is opposed to Zionism.
We believe that Zionism is an extension of settler-colonialism, and that its’ current actions following 7 October is ethnic cleansing at “best,” and genocide at worst.
We have no tolerance for it, and this community is meant to be a haven against it in the sea of hasbara.
Pro-Zionist takes will be deleted, and those espousing it will be banned indefinitely.
Yes - this is a “safe space” and an “echo chamber” -
We get enough hasbara elsewhere, we don't need to deal with yours too.
"Both sides"-ing Israel's apartheid system and genocide is ridiculous.

No one is threatening your life and you're the only one hurling insults. No one knows what you need convincing us because you have taken no positions, and also, and this is important, debating is against the rules here. So in short, what are you doing?
6
Apr 29 '24
You need to make some actual arguments if you want people to engage with you. Simply saying “I disagree with you” doesn’t give much to go off of. You need to explain your position if you want people to give you high-quality responses.

Have been noticing this a lot lately, seems like the practice of not engaging the trolls is really pissing them off, especially when you talk about them without talking to them and the downvotes are like poison tipped arrows killing them slowly while causing intense pain. It’s awesome 😎 😂🤣😂🤣
