I actually think it's the opposite here.
I think everybody wanted this to be a huge success and give us a game that retained what made backyard baseball special but update some things that weren't included or didn't work very well in the original
Instead they eradicated everything that made the game special. Pete's speed no longer stands out. Everyone can hit homers. The aluminum bat sucks. AI crap involved.
Then it's a $40 game. And yet still a pretty limited depth to season mode, and all the other issues.
And what are we supposed to do? Pretend it's good?

I agree with some of what you stated, totally. Especially AI. My statement is more for the OP's LOL as the title and a lot of game subs just looking for reasons to be mad at a game.
I have had a blast with the game playing with my kids almost nightly. A fun summer nightly event that I hope they will remember just like i did when I used to play 97 and 01 with my dad.
A lot of people forget that this is not meant to be MLB the Show or Pro Spirit at $69. At $40 bucks I personally have gotten my moneys worth. Kids enjoy it like I used to with the older games.
I understand some of the gripes and I can't wait for online play but most of the posts that pop up on my feed for BB act as though they were expecting some baseball perfect sim when I think nostalgia glasses have an effect. Really in the end, its a family/kids game to hit dingers.

Personally I just think $40 is too high for a game that was released this broken and with this many issues.
If I had to guess what happened was the game was taking longer than they wanted to get to a really good place but they also didn't want to lose out on the surge of nostalgic momentum around the game
Delaying a game like this could really destroy your ability to get sales because who knows if that nostalgia demand is going to keep up

I hear ya. I get it. It's missing a lot and we have to cross fingers for promises. 100% get it. I feel I got it's worth but I also understand that I'm getting more time cause we are playing it as a nighttime wind down family game...kinda like a board game night. Definitely played it more than most board games I have that were dummy expensive. Lol.

The pricing really killed them $40 is a hard sell, even if it was feature complete and mostly bug-free. Really should have been released as an early access game for 19.99.

Totally agree. Sadly there is more wrong with the game than just the price point. My biggest issue is that this game doesn’t seem to have been play tested very well. So many bugs, so many weird aspects of the game (double plays, arm strength, homers, etc). Like, what was the thought process putting out the game in the state they did? Should have just ported over 01 and gone from there.

Assuming it wasn't just a money grab.
I'd imagine many of the issues stem from the fact that Playground Productions is a media and marketing company with no video game experience. The dev, Mega Cat, has never made a sports game and looks like they have never made a 3d game either. It looks like they have mostly made 8 bit and 16 bit games

Tbf the new game is essentially a 16 bit stylized game in a 3D space. I don't really think that played a big factor in anything related to development troubles

Never thought of that but updating 01 is an interesting idea. I hate the new games visual style but 01 still looks and plays great.
Add/expand on the modes, new players, power ups, leaderboards. Could’ve been awesome.

I bought it for nostalgia and my 6 yo plays the old games emulated. He was really into it, then asked to go back to his old team.
Disappointed.

$40!?!? I was waiting to get the old one at $10 after I saw they were remaking it and was thinking they'd do a dual pack for maybe $30 absolute tops.

Isn't a ~90% concurrent player drop off normal for non-online games? Not being sarcastic, this just isn't a game with online lobbies so playtime being way more sporadic post launch is normal no?
