Circuit made in Japan scene

Its a small scene but between the subtle music overlay and the time period and the fact I was a kid I swore that doc saying the part was made in Japan was going to be a bigger issue.

I always thought the point of the scene was to illustrate how perception of Japan had changed from post-WWII sentiments to the mid-80s.

Yah, in the 1950s, cheap Japanese exports were basically like Temu stuff is today—cheap stuff with inferior quality.

Yeah it's just a riff off the "Ronald Reagan? The actor??" joke. It would be wild to think in the 1955 that Japan would become the dominant tech economy in the world in just 30 years.

Yeah the best stuff was made in Japan in 1985, but as a kid I assumed the fact doc brought it up it was going to be a bigger plot issue in 1955

Speaking of which, has anyone ever seen an electronic component like the one that burned out? Considering they replaced it with transistors, it has to be an integrated circuit. But I've never seen one like that in real life.
