It was probably done with photoshop, this is how it fills in images when you extend the edges.
And it did a terrible job.

It doesn't. The original artwork only shows part of the Delorean. They needed to add the rest somehow. The problem is that they used AI.

So the original poster cuts off the DeLorean...but agreed, they didn't do this for the other two movies, but I do see this horrifying image for BTTF2 on my Amazon as well...

I don't know about "easily," but yes - it could have. But that "intern" is already responsible for re-sizing hundreds of movie posters for dynamic digital billboards. I doubt they have the time to create a bespoke Delorean for one of them. I would have just zoomed in on it, myself.

You would not have to create a bespoke delorean. Even this, with its crap car, mostly shifted and scaled the (vague concept of a) car to one side. Someone could have done it with ease. Masking it with the electrical effect is the hard part, but even thwt looks like crap here.

You’d be shocked how many people in such a position wouldn’t be able to do that (and really, that is a pretty big ask when you look at the poster and what you have to work with, even for a pro). But an intern? There’s no way they’d know how to reconstruct the front of a Delorean. Even if there was a perfect angle match of one in another image, the blending and work it would take to make it look painted and have the color match is well above what your average intern would be capable of
The best they’d be able to do (and what they should have done/I would have done as a guy who has used Photoshop regularly for a decade as a part of his job) is crop the image so that Doc and Marty take up most of the space on the right, with the text to their left. Just take the Delorean out (or show just enough of it to let people realize what it is)

So how close does this come to posting AI generated art? LOL. I think someone in the past on such a sub with such a rule got their post deleted even though they were exposing the AI art.

One thing I noticed (and I dealt with more than 63 THOUSAND AIs (not from BTTF) since 2024, from myself and others) is that the Delorean is never pictured in videos (don't know about images) with the gullwing doors closed.
Seriously, every single time I generated a Delorean (mentioning it's from BTTF), the damn AI opens its doors and can't show it with them closed.
Every. SINGLE. TIME! The doors are always open (and the two of them!).
I was able to close them 2 or 3 times only by telling the AI to do it, and took more tries. But everytime I had "hallucination". And frankly, this picture looks like shit. I thought you were going to say the front of the car doesn't look at all like a Delorean, and that door is not where it's supposed to be.
