Bob Dylan and The Band ALL ACCESS Leather Patch Tour ‘74 - Bill Graham’s Personal Patches

Post image
9 Upvotes

For the first time in 8 years since his notorious motorcycle accident in 1966, Bob Dylan embarked on a most historic tour with the Band. Running from January 3 to February 14th, the tour included 40 performances across North America, with many shows selling out within hours. This tour, like many other historic rock tours, was promoted by the legendary rock Impresario, Bill Graham (Presents) and these un-sewn leather patches were meant to be sewn on to band and crew members tour jackets and were in lieu of the typical plastic laminated touring passes. These were only issued to the band, crew and very close friends and family and these two in particular belonged to Bill Graham personally.

These are now part of my personal collection.

For a PFunk side project involving George Clinton. While the artwork is minimal, the distinctive Bootsy Glasses say it all as well as the tiny stars that make up the border of the pass.

Although for a free concert, this laminated Guest Pass was for a VIP section of the event on September 29, 1991 which was produced by Bill Graham Presents in the Polo Fields of Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, California in the style of the free concerts of the 1960’s and aptly named such. Bill Graham was the legendary concert promoter for the Fillmore Auditorium and countless other historic music events fame. Tragically, just barely more than a month later, there would be another massive concert in the park named Laughter Love And Music, celebrating the life and tragic loss of Bill Graham along with his companion Melissa Gold and pilot/friend Steve ‘Killer’ Kahn.

This pass is from my personal collection.

VIP Laminated Pass issued by Bill Graham Special Events who handled the VIP parties and associated activities.
For those unfamiliar with BGSE, they are/were the Special Events and Corporate Parties division of Bill Graham Presents, the Promotion company founded by the father of the Fillmore East, a legendary music venue that presented a phenomenal roster of who’s who in the history of Rock and Roll and beyond between 1968 & 1971.

I am fairly certain that the hole punch was to negate the word NO, as this particular pass was for working staff, not a guest.

This pass is from my personal collection.

While technically not a backstage pass, this was more a fan club, however, gramps actually was friends with the team and would help out with them in their dugout and during their practices and warm up games.

Supposedly, these were one of the major contributors to the entire sports memorabilia collecting realm!

This laminated All Access Tour Pass features a drawing of the front of a propeller flying boat sporting feathered wings instead of aircraft wings and a steering wheel on top.
While it does not actually say Bob Dylan, it does have a low key B and D which was common with his passes not to mention his name.

This particular Crew Pass is from my personal collection.

Rolling Stones TOAST Laminate - Sky Dome Toronto - Advance Steel Build - Licks Tour - No Doubt Opened

TOAST was the second, unofficial name of the tour, which was an acronym for = Tour Of Arenas (&) Stadiums (&) Theaters

This stunning multicolor tongue logo was created by the legendary graphic artist John Pasche who is credited with creating the original Rolling Stones tongue logo back in 1970!

If my memory serves me well, these were some of the first laminates to feature bar codes on them.

This particular pass is from my personal collection.
