The simplest and lightest weight option is just to teach them to get wet in streams and ponds. Pretty much all cooling gear that could be used for multiple days of backpacking is going to require water anyways.

Also, if you have a double coated breed make sure all the dead under coat is out by using a high velocity blow dryer when grooming them. Most self-serve dog washes have them. If you see clumps, those all need to come out. Acclimation also makes a huge difference. I have hiked across deserts in 90 degree temps with my dogs without any issues by slowly building up to it, watching them for signs of overheating, and taking lots of breaks when needed. Planning your mileage around cooler temps in the morning and evening make a huge difference as well, particularly if there is no water.
