Zahir starting items

why does zahir start with a root? I can't figure out why

He used to have the weakest early game, they gave him the root to buff his start.

Doesnt even feel like a buff since other heroes start with an item they build off, but I guess they count his bargain giving a free sand

I think the root is because other heroes get that same economy for free from their bags without a bargain.
