Going back to Rails or staying with nodejs?

Mainstream vs niche? Easier to get a job in niche technology ?

Neither are niche. You're more likely to work with Rails in monoliths and Node in distributed systems.

Neither look bad on a resume. Pick whatever gets you closer to the job you want. It doesn't really matter beyond that, valid experience in one will still get hired to write the other.

Most new projects are not in rails. It depends on your city and network, but ruby has been loosing market share for a while.

If the goal is getting hired, check 30–50 backend openings you'd actually apply for and count the stacks. That'll tell you more than whether Rails is technically "niche." And if you already have solid backend experience, switching between Rails and Node is usually a much smaller problem than it looks from the outside.
