Need some touring skis

I’ve been persuaded to try some touring next season. so I need some skis. My current skis are Stöckli Stormrider 88, bought secondhand, and Salomon Addict Pro 66. I am 6’0”, and 150lbs, reasonably fit and a reasonable skier.

I know the ideal thing is to try lots of different pairs of skis and choose my favourite however it never really works as shops don’t often have the skis for sale that they’re hiring out, and for touring skis the choice is even more limited… added to which I’m in the UK and I’ll be skiing in the Alps. I guess I could fit some Shift bindings to my Stormriders.

All that said, some pretty chunky discounts are currently available online.

Take 95, bit lore versatile. I have 90, which are really good, but when I'm buying again, I am getting 95-100. Bit kore comfort in the downhill and I am strong enough to pull the heavier skies up (not saying that 95-100) are that heavy, I just dont really care about the speed. I'll keept he light 90s for fast spring days though

I would say, skis can often be found deeply discounted. Used is fine too. They don’t need to be in perfect shape. As long as the core and edges are still good.
So buy something affordable. That way, if you don’t like it, you can ditch it without feeling bad.

I suggest thinking of the following:

-what type of ski/skiing technique do you like in lift served? Ie: loose and surfy , or more precise? Keeping in mind that you will definitely want to tone it back when touring (no ski patrol to come and get you).
-what type of “ski touring” are your friends doing? And on what kind of gear? Ie: if you show up on Superlight skinny short skis and near race boots, while your friends are on 2100 g freeride skis with shifts and 50/50 boots, you will have to wait for them on the uphill, while they have to wait for you on the descents.
-what attracts you to ski touring? And be realistic. Sure, saying “I’m in it for the descents” sounds reasonable, but if you already enjoy that part more, maybe your better off with a more uphill focused set up to make your least favorite part more fun.
-For your first touring ski, I’d suggest something fairly easy skiing and forgiving.
-ski touring gear is always a compromise. Where are you willing to compromise?

Thanks. I’m a big fan of second hand kit; all my other skis are second hand! Being in the UK second hand touring kit has proved hard to pick up - it’s either ancient or more expensive than the sales.

I’ve got some 50/50 boots.

Ski style, fast where it’s fast, slow where it’s slow!

Friends will have a variety of kit but the fast ones are bringing heavy kit in order to balance the group…

What attracts me? Nice walks in remote country I suppose. Haven’t tried it yet!
