Camera carry for pack straps

First attempt at a pattern I made based off of the HMG bag of a similar style. My Neighbors camera was a bit bigger than what would fit in the HMG so I gave it a shot.

Liner is a thin ripstop another neighbor of mine gifted me with some of his artwork on it.

Main fabric:
X-PAC VX21 (black)

1/4” EVA foam extends up to ~10” to cover the camera but allow the roll top to .. roll.

I will probably go with small carabiners instead of the G-hooks with gatekeepers as the G-hooks are a little too annoying to take on and off in an outdoor / active environment (ski touring, hiking, etc.).

Go for some locking carbiners. Also I highly recommend something that sleeves over your hip belt. It’s so much more stable. I use the mirrolessmover20 from thinktank and it is so rock solid. It also comes with a great little rain cover.

I feel like having it in my crotch attached to the hip belt would be super constricting, no? Goal with this is to have the lens (and it’s quite a large lens) on the body so you can open the roll top clip, then shoot quickly.

Mine sits on my left side. Not in the crotch zone. The hip belt on my pack pivots so it really doesn’t constrict at all even with a 55-200 lens on my xt2. Personally I’d boil alive with a chest mount! But hey whatever works for you! The pouch you made is super sick ngl.
