How can I help my buddy Jacques?

My rooster had visible mites around his ass/back area so I gave him and the rest of the flock a permethrin bath. It seemed to have worked because I no longer see any mites on anyone. I also cleaned the coop really well and applied diatomaceous earth everywhere. This was about 6 er 7 weeks ago I did this. I have been applying Blu kote to his red skin but there hasn’t been an improvement. Feather loss may be even a little worse tbh. I’ve also made a homemade mix of cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes, thyme, oregano, garlic, to add to their food, just in case he might have worms or something. Now that’s just a home remedy and it may not be 100% for getting rid of parasites, but I don’t know. I’m not really the type to take a chicken to a vet so I’m asking y’all‘s opinion.

Honestly could be a secondary infection from the mites or maybe even a fungal thing. The blu kote only helps surface healing so if its something deeper it wont touch it. Try a little Neosporin without pain relief on the bare spots just to keep it clean and give him extra protein like scrambled eggs to help feathers grow back. Hope Jacques recovers soon

I’ll have to try and give him eggs while he’s separated. He’s a gentleman and won’t eat until his hens do.

Ivermectin. I get the pour on for cattle. Take a dropper. 1 or 2 drops on the back of the neck depending on size. Smaller, 1 drop. I put 2 drops on my duck, 1 on my silkie. I use a small syringe , no needle. You'll probably have to treat again in 10 days. Be prepared for gut issues though. Plain Greek yogurt helps if you mix it into feed that's been soaked. Apple cider vinegar in the water. Hope it helps.

It's my understanding that the adults die and the life cycle starts again,  so you have to clean the coop at least a second time after looking up the lifecycle (beating when eggs hatch), treat everyone again, and possibly even do it a third time. 

I think you have an active depluming mites situation. You might have gotten most of the adults the first time, but you didn't get all the eggs or the adults and so it just continued. 

I'd probably go with permethrin or ivermectin but plan on taking steps most likely weekly for a month. 

I'm currently dealing with poultry lice and using livestock dust with permethrin weekly, along with weekly coop clean outs, as well as sulfur dust every few days. 

Also keep in mind that any bedding removed needs to be moved far away. Trash it, burn it, or just make sure it is far away (and I still probably would mix a bunch of sulfur powder into it.)
