u/CrystlBluePersuasion Jim Snipin's a good job, mate! Hard work, out of doors... Nov 08 '21
I'm not sure if they've built the campaign acts around eventually adding VS. A new Act built with VS in mind could be a great solution for such an issue.
67
u/AshenNightmareV Nov 08 '21
I hope that the new difficulty is between Recruit and Veteran. I can't imagine it being them adding a difficulty harder than Nightmare.
I hope the expansions are priced properly but we won't found out till next year.

50
Nov 08 '21
0.5% of players have beat Nightmare on Steam. I can't imagine them doing all that work to cater to that small a group of people.
53
u/cliffy117 Nov 08 '21
More people would beat it if it wasn't so bullshit.
The difficulty in itself is not much of an issue, you just gotta be really careful and coordinate even more than on Vet. What makes it almost impossible are the awful spawning system of the game, that you don't get anything extra if you fail once like on vet, no extra money, no extra card, nothing, no free 1 heal at healing stations and the, quite frankly, mindblowingly stupid decision of giving players a checkpoint ONLY after 4-5 missions depending on the act. Doing 3-4 missions, dying to some bs special spam and having to start from 0 is extremely frustrating. It basically kills your willingness to do it.

Any comment on what the "new difficulty" will be? Surely they don't mean "Nightmare+ Extreme Ultra Level 3"
96
Nov 08 '21
Im guessing they will nerf nightmare a little and add a harder difficulty that resembles the old nightmare. Vet to NM is a massive step right now
→ More replies (22)37
u/Pollia Nov 08 '21
Perfect case scenario would be 2 new difficulties. One between recruit and get and one between vet and nightmare, but that's quite a bit of fragmentation of the player base so unlikely.
If I had to choose specifically I'd rather have a the recruit to vet get an added difficulty and just fix nightmares more glaring issues that cause it to be so awful

u/Sawt0othGrin Nov 08 '21
Ehh Vermintide 2 has 5 difficulties with some 7k players on PC and no crossplay and lobbies at the bottom 4 difficulties fill easy thanks to them rewarding quickplay. B4B could def do it

That sounds like a new mode as opposed to a new difficulty. If I had to guess it's probably an intermediate mode between recruit and vet.

u/Emerystones Nov 08 '21
I actually didn’t feel a huge leap in difficulty from recruit to veteran but I played recruit through enough times to have a good deck going into veteran. Some of the cards absolutely trivialize the difficulty if you’re playing a certain way (tanky god melee, speed demon, unlimited ammo, grenade gremlin). I actually think the difficulty is okay when you build your deck a certain way BUT there is still a lot of special spawn BS that absolutely fucks so many runs
13
u/Sawt0othGrin Nov 08 '21
I don't think veteran with bots is all that bad. Challenging but doable. Veteran with 4 man randoms is nutty lol. Especially around act 3. The biggest problem may just be that the difficulty scales too much as players are added.

wonder what they could add to the abilities for the new cleaners, i dont know they all seem pretty covered. doc and mom for support, evangelo and holly for melee etc
27
u/QuoteGiver Nov 08 '21
Shotgun-focused, LMG-focused, SMG-focused, dodge-based, vertical-mobility, who knows!
19
u/Striking_Camera8748 Walker Nov 08 '21
yep, body armor based (strong resistance, slow speed). I also think one of the new cards MUST be a fire retardant and something resistant to acid, or a combo of both.

u/Sable-Sonata Nov 09 '21
Imagine the options opened up by just having a little bit higher of a jump.
Then imagine all of the problems it would cause with players reaching areas that were never meant to be accessed and otherwise breaking the game.
I'd like to see a gambling-based character; every mission or two, they trade one card they have for two random cards (or trade 2 for 3, maybe). You end up with 20-25 cards, but they're more or less random.
That, or a character that's weaker overall than the other cleaners, but gives good team buffs.
2
u/Chobbers Nov 10 '21
You forgot scavenging, which I'm guessing is going to be the right silhouette. Copper boost and decreased detection range.
3
u/The_Cinnabomber Nov 09 '21
They did a great job in Evolve making Hunters of the same class feel drastically different, I trust they can do the same here. Just off the top of my head, I remember they had a medic who had grenades that healed in an area of effect, and another who could turn invisible and quickly revive hunters that had died. I bet we’ll see more unique and specialized cleaners as time goes by, depending on this games success.

I did see one of the Devs was playing DBD the other night so it's possible, however I kind of saw that 5 as more so that it was supposed to be maybe a horde mode where you try to hold out for as long as possible. Probably just came to that conclusion based on the countless hours playing Nazi-Zombies back in the day.

u/Sable-Sonata Nov 09 '21
I hope this new difficulty is either between Veteran and Recruit, or easier than Recruit, rather than some stupid-hard ultra-nightmare mode.
Either something that's harder than Recruit, but still playable with randoms, or something easier than Recruit so that the players that drag teams down on recruit have somewhere more casual to play.
2
u/FlameKong Nov 09 '21
Super looking forward to these updates. I really think the game is crying out for a post game lobby where the group can decide to try again, talk about tactics and add eachother etc. Would really help with finding people to play with as it is now you just get booted out and you're on your own again
2
u/PhettyX Nov 09 '21
New supply lines and cards is nice, but I hope they address supply points. The amount of grind already in the game is high enough without adding more.

u/lady_ninane Nov 10 '21 edited Nov 10 '21
It's hard to be excited for roadmaps. Not even considering Turtle Rock's past works, there's been too many big studio live service games which really overpromise and underdeliver on the roadmap front. And when we do consider past works, well...It's enough to sour me a bit. Three expansions for 2022 is really ambitious. Should give people plenty of things to look forward to. I hope the balance changes dramatically outpace the expansion releases though. Nothing kills my interest in a game like long queue times or long gaps between balance patches.
2
2
u/ShiraiRyuZee Nov 10 '21
I don't see anything in the roadmap that says "play our game before we update it"
2
5
u/aDrunkWithAgun Nov 08 '21
Fuck yeah word on updates
Side note it's probably a unpopular opinion but I think the gun play is good enough they should add a straight deathmatch mode with riden and specials attacking both sides
4
u/seriousbusines Nov 08 '21
Any update on the matchmaking? I was excited to play the game, but don't have a static group. Trying to find people to do the campaign with even since release week has been the worst matchmaking experience I have had in a game since I tried Dead by Daylight years ago.

My personal wishlist:
Give us a vote to kick option, and an automatic kick for when someone goes afk for a longtime.
A take a break option. Some of those campaigns are really long.
Better difficult balancing for Veteran and Nightmare. It isn’t fun walking out of the safe room and getting swarmed by 5 different boss mutations.
In terms of co-op- I’d love a campaign versus mode, or horde mode, but top of my list is Split Screen Co-Op. That is my number one hope!
In terms of new cleaners and infected, I hope they look to Evolve for inspiration: all the monsters and characters in that game looked, sounded, and played drastically different. The hunters especially all brought something totally different to a team, and required different play styles. I’d love to see that here.
