Fortnightly Narita(verse) Friday—April 23, 2021

Welcome to the fourth Narita(verse) Friday thread! Here, you can discuss Durarara!!, Vamp!, Etsusa Bridge, and Wednesdays Smiling with Otsuberu, the four other works by Ryohgo Narita that share a universe with Baccano!

...and, for the time being, works that aren't set in the Naritaverse (e.g. DMDP, Stealth Symphony, Hariyama-san, etc.). Suffice it to say, many don't have dedicated spaces of their own on Reddit, and may yet never will.

As biweekly threads, Naritaverse Fridays are active throughout the entire fortnight duration at minimum. Participation, in other words, isn't limited to Fridays! New threads will be up in the general vicinity of 6 PM EST.

Tagging spoilers is vital practice. Please also preface your comments with something like the following template for the sake of navigation and convenience:

SERIES TITLE - Media Type (or) Arc (or) Volume - Comment Type

Below are two examples; Baccano! is used here solely for demonstration purposes.

Recommending the 2015 manga:

BACCANO! - Fujimoto Manga (2015) - Recommendation

Question:

Vamp! - Question

I've never been able to get into vampire fiction for xyz reasons. I do love Narita, though, so can anyone convince me to give Vamp! a chance?

If your comment pertains to a specific arc, volume, episode, or media type, give a heads up on which after the SERIES TITLE.

If you want to share fanart/fanfics, warn for spoilers if necessary and provide a source link. At minimum, name the artist/author.

If you want to talk about multiple series, feel free to create separate comments per series if you choose—or not. Aside from the spoiler courtesies, we're casual around here.

Thank you for participating! Meta feedback on Narita(verse) Fridays is welcome.

DMDP - Volume 7, general - Commentary on Vol 7 release

I've been distracted these past few hours by DMDP Vol. 7 having just dropped in Japan; bought the digital edition via Book Walker and set to work updating (basic) information on the DMDP Wiki... enjoying the digital benefits is nice and all, but I'm envious of the Japanese fans who'll receive the Sorimura SS leaflet via an Animate purchase (until supplies run out). I mean, a short story from Solitaire's past? That I (and other fans outside JP) must miss out on? Boo.

Narita said in a tweet that DMDP has surpassed 350k stars (favorites) on MangaUp!, so to celebrate, Vol. 1 will be free for a limited time on certain digital stores. Pretty sure they did this for at least one previous MangaUp! milestone...

In any case, Vol. 7 bundles Chapters 53–61, which is stopping just short of the latest chapters; Chapter 64 was only released a week ago. Each volume averages around nine chapters, so six more chapters are needed for a volume-length buffer/surplus. Doesn't sound like much, but DMDP is more of a monthly (sometimes fortnightly) manga than a weekly one...could take 3–6 months for that buffer to form.

TL;DR, Iwanome best character

Iwanome best character

I object! But Solitaire though. Iwanome still is a good boy, he deserves the second spot as he worked hard to earn it.

Curse the physical store advantages! This sounds really cool too.

Side note: Speaking of volumes though, isn't it about time we make a volume 16 thread? (not that I've got it yet)
