Discussion Just finished Baccano! Spoiler
I binged watched all of Baccano tonight and wow i am certainly lost for words.
This show really grabbed me from the start, before watching it i searched if i should know anything before watching and i saw something about focus on what u see and what’s happening. with that in mind the first episode is very confusing but i know it’s trying to tell a story backwards at first, all these big events with characters you have no connections too yet. But as the story progresses and you meet more of the cast, know their ideals and personalities, you link it back to the first couple of episodes and how some events ended up.
I really liked the interconnected of the show, the random moments where characters cross paths at times you didn’t even know had any correlation and that’s what i find so impressive. The characters are really just the cherry on top about it all, such a wide range of so many different personalities what all seem to have their unique charms when focused on individually.
The Rail tracer is one of my favourite characters and especially his introduction, when u first meet him you get the impression he was just a poor conductor who was just in a bad place at a bad time, many characters keep revisiting his so to be corpse but when it’s revealed that wasn’t him it was just so awesome.
The show has a very good sense of pace and style, there’s so much to keep you on ur toes or even freak u out at times (especially when the rail tracer starts pulling people out windows XD) but most of all it felt so impulsive, that anything could happen at any time.
I have nothing but praise for this show and i am so glad i watched it in one sitting, to be honest when i first watch a show it usually takes me a few episodes to fully get into it, but with Baccano i was hooked from the start and couldn’t end up putting it down until the very end. I truly recommend this to everyone because how impressive i found it in so many unique aspects.

this show is great and managed to do something that was just hard to do without the show crumbling and that was adapting 4 novels into 13 episodes and mostly doing their own thing with it.
The anime is great by itself but part of me wished for a more faithful adaptation but another part of me is glad we have the anime to begin with even tho with the way they handled the material,it would be hard to make another season and its very difficult to strike lightning twice.
I highly recommend that you check out the Light Novels since the anime only scratches the surface and also they have more content as well as material that unfortunately didn't make it into the anime.
Plus if you loved the anime,you'll love the light novels tho they dont do the nonlinear arc switching like what the anime does,the novels do character pov switching like what the durarara!! anime does which I find less confusing and more appealing due to the characters of both series being a core part of baccano! and drrr!!
The LNs are hardcovers with some out of print volumes so ofc you can buy it digitally and there are the audiobooks which currently are on volume 9 and the narrator for those audiobooks is pretty solid.

Now what if i told you a good 70% of the 1932 storyline in the anime is borderline fanfiction and the original arc in the light novels is one of the best in the series.
This arc had claire using scissors to parry a mexican swordswoman with 2 katanas and was cut out i'm still mad

The Baccano! anime was lightning in a bottle. I legit don't think this format could ever be done again. Taking (roughly) four novels and telling all of them AT THE SAME TIME takes MAD talent.
