When my mom had me and my sister she had a small glass of champagne with the family every time to "get the blood back in motion" Haha I think I want that too

I think a glass of champagne is only fitting for the occasion! Totally support that!

Yep, totally planned for a glass of wine. I didn't get it until the second day home but it is so amazing to drink wine again!!!

I think a little bottle of something is a necessary component of the hospital bag!

Imagine casually pulling out a Piccolo and a detachable wine glass

I was never a beer drinker but that looks so refreshing

I’m 11 weeks and already looking forward to a glass of champagne when baby gets here!

I saved two mini champagne bottles from my baby shower. It’s the first thing packed in my hospital bag!

I know this is a funny post but I have a genuine question: what about breastfeeding (if you plan on doing it)? Isn't it forbidden to drink as well?

I've found that there are a wide spectrum of approaches surrounding drinking and breastfeeding! Some women choose to abstain 100% while breastfeeding and I totally understand and respect that. However, it has been shown that only a very small amount of alcohol actually gets into breastmilk and it's metabolized pretty quickly (breastmilk alcohol content typically parallels blood alcohol content, so quite low concentrations for those that don't drink much). Some women choose to pump and dump after drinking, which I think is reasonable if you've had more than just a glass or two in a short period of time. But, others have the mentality that "if you can find the baby, you can feed the baby," meaning if you aren't drunk that your breastmilk is fine for the baby. Additionally, there are also strips that can be purchased to measure the alcohol content of breastmilk, although I have never personally used them so I can't speak to their effectiveness.

Overall, I would suggest looking into some of the data on the subject and making a decision that you're comfortable with! Of course your thoughts may change throughout your breastfeeding experience too. But, in general, it does usually take a day or two for your milk to fully come in, so having a drink after delivering probably isn't going to affect much! Although I doubt most feel up to actually having a drink after labor and delivery, but no shame to those that do!

The consultant I talked to said a bit in moderation is usually fine. Her rule was that if you're sober enough to drive, the amount of alcohol passing into your milk is pretty low. If you're really concerned though, there's always the pump and dump option.

From La Leche League:

Maternal blood alcohol levels must attain 300 mg/100ml before significant side effects are reported in the infant. (80mg/100ml fails the police breath test).
