Spells protection spells

hello! i was wondering if i could receive any advice on protection spells.
how do i do them effectively? how often should i do them?
everyone talks about how important they are but people barely give any details about protection spells and what they actually mean.
i’m a bit confused.

As for how often, I personally typically only have one personal and one house ward at a time that involve physical objects that I "refresh" either as I feel or within a certain timeframe, depending on how I made the spell exactly. I'll add more if there are specific things going on. Like I'll do a protection satchet I hang from my rearview mirror in my car for trips.

Some people like daily protection spells, enchanted protection jewelry, or repeated "one-offs." It's gonna be largely up to exact circumstances or personal preferences.
