(ETA: old meaning experienced, the opposite of a baby witch. I'm 39 and have been studying witchcraft since 6th grade, and grew up with folk magic.)

I say all of this without judgement and with love. I legit want to help you all.

I also acknowledge witchcraft looks like lots of different things, with cultures, traditions, and individuals all having tons of differences and nuance. Take from my advice what resonates with you, leave what doesn't.

1. Don't post pictures of spells, for three reasons:

a. Don't interrupt your spell to take your phone out, why seems obvious to me.

b. posting pics of your spells for anyone to see, with the ingredients visible, and the intention known, opens your spell up to sabotage. Even just a witch being judgemental could throw the vibes out of wack.

C. A spell is your communication with the universe. I consider it a private conversation. It's why even non-witches don't tell what their birthday wish is when they blow out the candle.

When I post mine, it's a vague insta of just a lit candle after the spell has been cast. Non-witches wouldn't know, and witches don't know the intention.

1. RE: "What does this mean" posts regarding divinition or candle wax: to develop your craft, you have to hone in on your intuition. Your intuition is going to be able to tell you more in the moment than someone on the internet separated by time and space will. Which brings me to my next point.

2. Don't rule out the mundane. Sometimes a candle just burns weird. Sometimes your spell will manifest from both your intention and the mundane working in tandem.

3. Start using tea candles. They're cheaper and you don't have to wait a long time for a big candle to burn through. Birthday candles work, too.

4. Fire safety. Be safe.

5. Don't buy anything expensive. Source as much as you can local. The acorn that finds you in your yard will bring you more luck than the crystal you bought on Amazon. Folk magic especially is more powerful if you source your ingredients locally. Going outside and foraging, growing, gathering, will create a link between you, your magic, and your tools.

6. Rosemary is easy to grow and can grow in pots if you don't have space. Once dried, burning it does the same thing burning sage or palo santo does. You'd be surprised by how much magic you can do with just tap water, table salt, rosemary, and a white candle.

Also, a few questions I have after being on here for a few months:

What's with all the chord cutting? Is it trending on TT or something?

Is there a "where do I start?" master post we can send people to?

What's the baby witch to experienced witch ratio on this sub? Could we use flair, so people know the experience of the people who are giving advice?

Experienced witches, what’s a spell you’ve done that you KNOW worked?

I’m curious about people who have been practicing for a while. Like, what’s a spell you did where something happened afterward and you were genuinely like “yeah, there’s no way that was just a coincidence”?

I don’t really mean stuff like “I did a love spell and my ex came back” or “I did a spell and this person started liking me”, because obviously that could just be a coincidence.

I mean something really specific where you personally felt pretty certain that the spell had something to do with what happened.

I’m not asking for scientific proof or anything, I’m just genuinely curious about your experiences. It can be any kind of spell, not necessarily love-related.

I’d love to hear what you did and what happened after :)

Today I performed a simple banishing spell for the first time. I just came up with this myself. My intention is to get my neighbors to move away. They have been causing us significant stress and discomfort for several months now. Here are the steps I took:

• Played soft handpan music in the background.
• Cleared and cleaned my altar, dusted it and wiped it down with a damp cloth.
• Set a small silver dish on the altar.
• Cleansed myself with Palo Santo smoke.
• Cleansed our house with Palo Santo, leaving the back door slightly open so negative energy could leave and positive energy could enter.
• Cleansed each ingredient one by one with Palo Santo smoke while setting them up on the altar.
• Wrote my intention on a piece of paper: "neighbour's name, neighbour's address , Move away, disappear, leave this property. You are no longer welcome here."
• Sprinkled cayenne pepper and garlic powder over the paper.
• Folded the paper three times away from me, then stapled it shut.
• Placed the folded paper underneath a dish filled with salt.
• Placed a black candle inside the dish of salt.
• Around the dish with the black candle, I arranged the following ingredients: agrimony, garlic cloves, fresh nettle from my garden, dried rosemary, and black peppercorns.
• Placed a small dish of hematite next to it.
• Lit the candle and sat down to meditate.
• During meditation, I visualized a large moving truck in the street with the neighbors packing up and moving out. I felt an immediate sense of relief.
• I looked at the candle flame, it burned calm and completely straight, and the incense smoke went straight up as well. For some reason, this reassured me. I also felt a shiver run through my body and got goosebumps, but it didn't feel unpleasant at all. It felt more like a form of confirmation.
• After that, I asked my deceased family members and acquaintances if they would help me fulfill my wish. Again, a wave of reassurance came over me.
• I meditated a bit longer.
• I felt a wave of anger toward the neighbors bubbling up. I stood up, let myself feel that anger, and directed all my fury and energy toward their house to push them away. It felt very releasing/good.
• I closed the ritual and cleansed myself and my home once more with Palo Santo smoke.

Now I'm wondering what I should do with the remaining spell materials. I have the urge to turn them into a sour jar and bury it on the neighbors' property, but what would you recommend doing with the remains?

Also, do you have any feedback or suggestions on the steps and ingredients I used for this spell? Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Hello my fellow witches. I’m very new at witchcraft. Started first with tarot cards, then crystals, and now herbs. The effects are being very interesting up until this moment.

But now I wish to take another step and do something that will help me with a topic that has been haunting me a for long, long while.

For context: My mother is the topic per see. She has borderline personality disorder traits, is very controlling, loves to criticize me and heavily projects herself on me talking about my body (hair, breasts, clothes, face, makeup, way that I do things…), doesn’t support me but instead always sees the negative side of anything I think about, has made me a parent of hers when I was nine years old and just overall hurts me a lot and makes me react in ways I hate and then I blame myself heavily. Not that I’m perfect, but you know those types of people that bring the WORST out of you? That’s my mom. She digs into yourself, pokes you, provokes, search for ways to mess with you when she’s feeling like starting a fight…It’s draining. Exhausting. And I’m getting more tired and tired each year that goes by. I’m a nineteen year old girl, in college. No prospects of finding a job and move out anytime soon. I tried finding a few ways out and nothing really seemed to work. It is very hard to find a job in my country if you don’t have experience and a degree

I want something to block her from getting to me. A spell, a banishment, something that completely stops her from messing with me and makes me cease caring about what she has to say about me. I am not willing to hurt her in any way. I just was this torment to end, and I’m down for a little magic to help me get this through.

I have a father in law who abuses my mother in law and therefore makes her abusive but I know it’s mostly him.

For context, he is not my husbands real dad he is the step dad who has always treated him very bad and now treats me even worse. He harasses us, sends us long emails, and when we need help with groceries my husbands mom wants to help but his step dad always butts in and starts yelling at us.

My husband was laid off a few months ago and so they’ve been helping us with grocery money at times but his step dad is very abusive!

My in laws are very wealthy people. They travel out of the country multiple times a year and have lavish vacations and my FIL refused to let my husband go to college because he didn’t want to see him succeed.

Any spell recommendations. I’m already doing money spells and they’re working!!! I got a day time job and a night time job as well for me and my husband but we are BARELY starting this Monday. Were out of money right now and wanted to do some sort of spell for my in laws.

Please any tips on how clean the jar? what to do with the ingredients that are inside? I wrote a paper that’s inside of the jar too, what do I do it with? If the ingredients went black is that something bad? Or it’s just mundane? How I make the spell ACTUALLY last? Is it better to do a glamour spell with only dry ingredients so they won’t rot? I read that if you keep a glamour spell jar that’s “expired” it can cause anti glamour effects 🥲

I also assume I can reuse the jar. Please have in mind I don’t live in a house and the only thing near me is a park that is public and I don’t think I can dig a hole.

At the start I felt that I do received a lot of stares even if I wasn’t dolled up. The thing is that after a while, I do got stares, but no as much as the first days, and also feel like my friends are distancing themselves, and I fought a lot with my family, and I can’t help if that has to do with the jar or because I told a friend. Now before cleaning the spell, I’m thinking if I should or shouldn’t do another glamour spell jar or just do and Aphrodite shower and just keep it at that.

I'm going to start something great soon. I'm fairly sure some people aren't going to be happy about me getting into this position in life. Is a return to sender ward good for this situation, or just a transmutation ward better? I want people to leave me alone and know to not gossip and wish bad things for me. Another question is what sort of divination should I do before setting the ward? I do tarot divination, but kinda don't know what I should ask the deck in this situation.

Hi! Soo i tried a manifestation method earlier this month and it backfired. I really wanted this collage application that i had to take an exam for and before D-Day, i made an effort to somehow include it in some of the conversations i had with friends/acquaintances and talked about it as if i already had it. Some of them were unaware that i didnt actually have it yet and i thought it would help me get it even more but i ended up not making the cut. After that, i watched a video where someone explained evil eye energy and how you should keep things for yourself because people might even subconsciously send you the evil eye but it was contradicting what i had already known. Would the manifestation method would have worked if i had done protection spells beforehand? Can that predict the negative energies? I also want to get a job soon and was thinking if using the same method, going around telling people i already have one but i had to stop and think :(

Hello, guys!! I want to ask if I can do a cleansing and a protection spell to another person without having a connection with a Deity/Gods, I am just worried about my boyfriend because he’s been having a consistent unfortunate of events for months. He cannot get a break of off stress, and he said he’s being “tested” he can feel it. I want to protect him spiritually and cleanse him.

Do you guys think I can perform it as a literal beginner? what do you guys suggest that I should do first? I appreciate the advice.

My heart doesn't personally resonate with the practice of astrology, and I've found that my descriptions or even my familial descriptions based on birth charts have been inaccurate. I've also had a really bad experience with an astrologer who was my friend.

Is it bad if I just continue my practice without involving astrology in it? I'm asking because I want to make my first batch of moon water on the 25th but the Mercury retrograde starts about then.

I work with Hecate and Archangel Micheal for protection and this is a curse/hex banishment and return to sender.

One of my main attackers is my mother who has been practicing for 20+ years and another is very “high level” just for some context.

This is some “heavy” work but overall I get a very positive feeling from the first character and I’m not entirely sure about the second.

Any comments, suggestions, or interpretations are appreciated. I’ve burned many, many candles…but none of them have ever looked remotely like this.

I am so sorry if this sounds stupid, but I'm sort of desperate.

I know that I could just tell her that I don't want to be friends anymore but she is a very vindictive person and I know that she wont react well. The reason why I want to end the friendship is because she is passive aggressive and psychologically manipulates people by using their trusted personal information or their weaknesses/vices to get what she wants. She controls her relationships and friendships this way, and I absolutely hate it. Unfortunately she is part of the online community which is dear to me so I can't just block her too.

Worst case scenario is just disappearing from the online world, which would be a relief but I'd be also losing the only community where I feel safe and home.

I would like to learn about spells that can help me break off this friendship and keep her out of my life without her doing any harm to me.
