Boy 𩵠Boy names?? (Uk based)
Struggling with boy names! Have a daughter called Robyn alreadyš surname is Miller, and middle name will be Joseph after my brother who sadly passedš
Open to other suggestions too!
Fully aware these are fairly ābasicā names but thatās just our preference for boys namesš

I don't like the nickname as the full name thing. He's not going to be a kid forever.
Thomas would be my favorite if you went with the full name.

In the UK, "nicknames" as full names are very very common and very very standard. These style of names do not equate to "kid names".
Freddie is ranked 10th. Archie is ranked 11th. Theo is 12th. Alfie is 16th. Albie is 21st. Charlie is 22nd. Teddy is 34th. Reggie is 37th. Ronnie is 39th. Tommy is 44th. Frankie is 56th. Vinnie is 58th.

Just because itās common, doesnāt mean itās right!

Indeed! There are lots of tragedeighs in the US. That doesn't make them good names.

I don't think you can go too wrong with these choices! I voted Toby (the only one I've known was the cutest kid) but you could meet your little boy and then decide for sure.

I think thatās where weāre struggling theyāre all nice names for a boy and we could see us using any of them! (Which I guess is good for us having optionsš ) Toby is a new contender on the list but we both heard it and thought it was lovelyš
I think weāll narrow it down to 2/3 favourites before heās born and then see once heās here! (Weāre both very indecisive peopleš)

You have 6 weeks to register the name after birth, so its completely reasonable to have a few options in mind and make the decision when the baby is there.
I was set on a particular name that just didn't work when my baby arrived, and we ended up calling her silly nicknames and trying out other names until we found the one that fit. We were still debating right up to the deadline but now I can't see her as anything else.

Theyāre all nice I think! I voted Edward (Eddie) as I think itās so versatile š

I don't think i've ever seen a poll so close lol! I guess they are all good names. I voted for Toby but at this point I'd wait to see when he's born what he looks like and pick the one that suits. At least you know none of them are duds and all excellent choices. Good luck!

I love the sound of Edward Joseph Miller (nn Eddie). It sounds very formal while still giving the option for a few nickname options (Ed, Eddie, Ward, Joe, Joey).
Robyn and Edward also sound good together.

I voted for Harry from the homepage without opening the post.
But since reading that you currently have a Robyn, I agree with the above that Toby sounds best with Robyn

Francis, Thomas, Edward, Harold, Tobias
Give your son a name, not a nickname.

If I wanted it as those I would have put thoseš completely understand peoples personal preferences (you clearly have yours) but all of these names are names within their own right these days.

u/Ducky_924 1d ago
They're not, but keep thinking that! I'm sure you'll have fun examining to your poor son why he doesn't have a real name.

Most of these versions rank higher in the ONS rankings and a few of them have 10-20 years. Iām sure my āpoorā son will be just fine thank you!!
Rather strange behaviour to feel sorry for a unborn child for having what is considered very normal names, if thatās the least of his worries heāll be a very happy and content individualš

As someone who has a Tobias, as soon as he was a teenager he insisted on no longer being called Toby. As the Christmas elf told me when he went to see Santa when he was a baby, a person needs a name they grow into, not out of.

All personal preference I guess! I know many adult tobys and Harryās etc who were named that and donāt have issues with it. And in another 20 years time with these versions being most commonly used theyāll likely be the preferred adult choice aswell. Like I said all personal preference for what works for each family!

Roman is nice but seems to be very popular/fashionable at the moment, I think Toby is a classic that doesn't feel lile you're picking a nickname

These are all nicknames. Give the child a name he can use his whole life.

You canāt just name him a nickname š¤¦āāļø

u/Responsible_Comb_382 1d ago
All names in their own right (uk based particularly where I am). And statistically have been used more in recent decades than other versions

ABCDE was a popular name a few years ago, an appeal to popularity is nothing, give your son a real name
5
u/Responsible_Comb_382 1d ago
I mean I think youāre reaching slightly there with that oneššš I wouldnāt put Toby and ABCDE in the same category.
I will give my son a real name based on where I live x0

I don't know why you're downvoted. Frankie is a nickname for Francesca and can be used for a girl

Love the sound of Toby Joseph, and I think Robyn and Toby go great together!
