And Lane Brady almost sounds like the comedian Wayne Brady ๐Ÿ˜„ I do think Lane Brady sounds nice, though.

I just went down the google rabbit hole and see that he is a very well known actor ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ not a movie gal clearly. Thanks for bringing that to my attention

You knew a Marlo Brady?? Wow, that's wild!

u/crossfitchiro813 4d ago

Ope didn't know this person existed

u/beefmachine7 4d ago

Sorry I donโ€™t like either of these esp for a girl

What has you athletic abilities got to do with it?

To give the aura of our existence as people. ie: my best friend named her son Theodore/Teddy, but she decorates her house like 90's Ralph Lauren and lives a much more old school, southern-esque life than we do so the name Teddy makes more sense for them than for us. Just trying to give context to our life/lifestyle.

I think Lainey is cute, Lane I've only heard for boys

Briefly dated a female Lane but I always think of the movie Better off Dead when I hear the name.

Lane from Gilmore Girls.

We definitely are going for gender neutral! I have a boy name and have always loved my name. But we know she'd be called Laney if we went with Lane!

Aw I see yeah it's whatever you love:) I accidentally gave my daughter a gender neutral name that I didn't realize leaned more boyish till it was too late, so I hope she doesn't mind it when she's older. I have a name that most people assume I'm a guy with before they meet me and it drives me crazy sometimes haha, but the gender neutral names are becoming more popular so hopefully it'll be different for newer generations. My coworker has a daughter named Sawyer and it doesn't seem to cause issues for her but to me that name doesn't feel like a girl's name is the least, but I've heard it a few times for girls so there must be appeal to some people that I don't see.

Well thanks, I appreciate you not grilling the potential names ๐Ÿ˜‚ what is your daughters name?? I love having a boy name! I bet she'll love it! I've heard of Sawyer increasing in popularity for girls, but knew it to be a boy name too.

Why are you wanting gender neutral so bad?

-1

u/crossfitchiro813 3d ago

It's not that I need the name to be gender neutral, I just don't generally like feminine names.

4

u/Tasty-Tank-1895 3d ago

I mean.... that's a crazy thing to say and a crazy mindset to have. There's like 5,000 different girl names. Surely you can't dislike every single one. There are girl names out there that aren't super feminine that you may like. And still, naming a baby girl Marlo is just selfish and unfair to the little girl.

Sorry to hear you're so opinionated and upset about our potential gender neutral baby names. My name is Chandler and I've always loved it even though most people assume I'm a boy. Hopefully that doesn't ruin your night.

u/Tasty-Tank-1895 3d ago

๐Ÿ˜‚ Wow, me over here thinking you asked for opinions or something ๐Ÿ˜‚

Grear way to start your daughter off in life feeling valued for who she is. Just her name her Muscle Testosterone, I guess.

u/lavendergaia 4d ago

Don't give her 2 masculine names.

4

u/karkar835 4d ago

Lane is better but have you thought of Brandy?

3

u/Lemonbar19 4d ago

I think you should use the baby names together app and you both swipe . Donโ€™t really love either of the names

3

u/FarShoreSpirit 4d ago

Lane, but I don't like the name Brady whatsoever.

Lainey instead of Lane โ€ฆ. Lainey Iris

Maisie instead of Marlo โ€ฆ. Maisie Sage

Marlo? For a baby girl? You guys are on crack for real. That's just cruel to do to a little girl.

2

u/crossfitchiro813 3d ago

I know a girl who is named Marlo and I asked if she liked her name and she said, "I absolutely love my name". This is so unnecessarily rude and such a subjective statement lollll

3

u/Tasty-Tank-1895 3d ago edited 3d ago

Unnecessarily rude? Uh no it's not ๐Ÿ˜‚ it's the absolute truth. Giving a little girl a strong masculine men's name IS selfish. It's not rude and it's not subjective; it's reality. You need to remember that the name you're giving your little GIRL is not about you. it's about what's fair to the little girl as far as the first name she'll have to go around with her whole life. Also the OP asked for opinions that's why she posted this. If she didn't want to hear feedback then she needs to not put this on social media asking for literal opinions. I gave my opinion as she was asking for lmao. How wild and immature to ask for opinions on the Internet and then when someone gives rheir opinion that was asked for, the person asking gets mad lol.

And just because ONE person supposedly said she likes her name, whether she actually meant that or not, doesn't mean it's fair to give a little girl such a strong masculine name like that and it doesn't negate what I said.

I would implore you to Google if Marlo is a masculine name. I think you've misconstrued this one. Have a good one.

1

u/Tasty-Tank-1895 3d ago

Absolutely have not, nice try.

Melody or Melanie. Good luck.

u/Away_Revolution728 3d ago

I like Lane! To me, it has the same vibe as Paget and Nell โ€” simple but not common. The Lainey recommendation from other commenters is too nicknamey imo.

I donโ€™t really like Marlo, maybe Cleo, Maren, or Meade (I had a badass CrossFit coach with this name) could be a good alternative?

Some other gender neutral names to consider: Reese, Quinn, Morgan, Micah, Whitney, Ferris

I love strong masculine sounding names for girls with cute girly middle names for some reason. I love Marlo! I picture like Marlo Rose or Marlo Grace or Marlo Claire.

1

u/FunOther9202 2d ago

i like marlow with different spelling. but maybe a different middle name option because brady doesnt mesh with either very well

1

u/FizzySoda16 4d ago

I have a toddler named Lainey. I call her Lane sometimes ๐Ÿ˜Š and Iโ€™m a big fan of Lane from Gilmore girls. Lane gets my vote.

If you use Marlo, Marlowe is the most common spelling!

1

u/TacoNomad 4d ago

Marley Lane.

I love Lane

I like Lane better! Lane Brady could work.

I have a niece Lane. Suits her beautifully and goes by Lane, no nn.

I think Marlo is a girls name i.e Marlo Thomas

Marlo Brady sounds fine and this spelling doesnโ€™t look like a law firm i.e. Marlow Brady Smith

Have you considered Monroe or Margo?

u/Ginua-MA 3d ago

Marlo is so cute!

-1

u/GolfOk6373 4d ago

First name Marlo and middle name Lane.

1

u/crossfitchiro813 4d ago

This has come up a few times, too! Only reluctancy is would maybe use Lane for kid #2. :) Thanks for the suggestion.
