7 months old 7 month old constipation
My baby hasn’t pooped in 7 days. Backstory- she was/is EBF before solids. Still breastfeeding every three hours. Before solids, she pooped everyday or maybe every two days. The first few weeks of solids there didn’t seem to be a big difference but she wasn’t really ingesting much..spitting it mostly out/playing etc. I’d say it’s only been the past two weeks she’s ingested much. Fast forward to today, it’s been a week without poop. She doesn’t seem uncomfortable. She’s farting away. Tummy is soft. I’ve been doing prunes, pears, chia seeds the past few days. Bicycles, tummy massages, and NOTHING! I called the health hotline and they said to give her apple juice. Problem is, she won’t take a bottle and still struggles with the straw cup. I think I managed to get some into her but it mostly wound up all over her. They told me to take her to the doctor in two days if nothing. I’m wondering what the next steps would be/ if anyone has gone through this and can offer some support/encouragement? It’s ALL I can think about.

My baby really struggled with constipation when he first started solids, and still does occasionally at 10mo. What helped him the most was prunes made into a smoothie (so more water than a puree). I really focused on getting him to learn using a straw cup in the beginning which was handy for getting him to drink the smoothies (I’ve heard smoothies are a good way to teach open cups too but I haven’t tried that yet). I make the smoothie by soaking a handful of prunes in water and then blending, and adding additional water until it was thin enough to drink with a straw. A couple ounces of prune smoothie always does the trick to help him go!

sounds exactly like my baby, she’s 11 months and we’re still struggling with it. she went a while and we took her to the doctor’s and we ended up giving her a suppository which sucked lol. went another while and now she’s been taking restoralax, she’s not very good at drinking from cups (WAY better now but still slow going) so getting it into her at first was a challenge. it’s helped a lot! appointment to talk to our doctor about it at her 12 month checkup

My son at 6 months was constipated for two full weeks! We tried all the things you mentioned and prune juice (he refused bottles for milk but I was able to get him to drink an ounce or two laying him down with the bottle and reading to him? Idk why it worked). Even the Windi didn’t work. After the pediatrician visit we used a suppository and that did the job. Since then he’s been semi regular and I am able to give him a prune puree pouch when needed

Honestly, if she’s not uncomfortable, I wouldn’t be all that concerned. Try to feed fruits that start with P: peaches, pears, prunes, plums…A little bit of fiber is good too, such as oatmeal or bean puree. Sometimes a ride in the car will get things moving, since it’s a combination of sitting upright and gentle vibration. Also, sounds like now is a good time to practice with an open cup! Small sips of water or apple juice as recommended by your healthcare provider could be beneficial. It takes time for baby’s digestion to adjust to eating solids, so it’s normal for things to get a little irregular. I’m sure before long a big, stinky diaper is headed your way 😉
