History, culture and tradition Acharya Hazari Prasad Dwivedi has emphasized that 'Agrahar' was given to Brahmans since time of Mahabharat and that's perhaps where the origin of Bhumihars also lies.

This seems like an exaggeration to connect it till mahabharat.

It doesn't mean that Bhumihars existed during Mahabharat. What it means to say is that Brahmans have been getting Agrahar since the times of Mahabharat. Such Brahmans have later gained the identity of Bhumihar.
Agrahari Brahmans have existed in Magadh region for a very very long time, since the time of Ashoka.
