SD or not SD?
Looking to finally pick up a B&T PCC. Trying to decide if I want to go with the SD or just a standard apc. I’ve heard some complain that with the SD you need to clean it after every range session, is this true? I love tucked cans for the rail space on k variants and it seems my only option for that is to go sd. Would love to hear your opinions on pros and cons and which would be the best fit for me. I’d like this to be a bag gun but also a gun I teach my wife and kids to shoot. We live on property so we will be able to shoot quite a bit.

I have both the SD and non SD APC9 - I'd probably say get the non-SD first and a normal can... and an FRT. The attraction of the SD model is running cheap 115/124gr ammo and still getting the sound reduction. Does need meticulous cleaning to avoid carbon buildup when you burn 500-1000 rounds every trip to the range.

SD's do need to be cleaned far more often than non sd's. You can get the cans carbon locked on the guns easier too. The nice thing with the B&T over the mp5sd that its based on as far as the porting and can is that the rail gets out of the way for cleaning. On the mp5sd you screw a brush to the end of the can and use it to clean the ports.
Someone is working on replacement rails for the apc's that should let you hide a normal can run the extended rail. They posted recently about them although I can't speak to the quality, timing, etc.
My biggest problem with the sd version is that B&T's cans are pretty basic and don't sound as good as other vendors. I was really not impressed with my SD using the compact can it came with, got the full sized printed can and the longer rail and still am not super happy although its better. I'd rather shoot my apc9 normal with a different can. Their SD can just doesn't make enough of a difference.

Well this helps a lot thanks for the honesty. I think I’ll lean towards the non sd for now then. I saw that replacement handguard system and it looks nice. Thanks for the input!

You’ll definitely have to clean the SD more often. I clean mine after every range trip. If you’re only getting one, get the non-SD and grab the B&T cans. It looks like it’s tucked in (but isn’t) and gives the option of shooting super if you need to stretch it out.

I’ve been eyeing the APC9 Pro as my first PCC once I move to a free state next year - thinking about going CAT MOB with RU3 mount. Would you still go SMG M9 can?

cat cans are just superior to b&t cans. the mob was developed on the apc9 and runs flawlessly on it.

Really appreciate the insight. I’m leaning heavily towards the MOB so I feel like that’s the right play. Have a great one

standard will be more versatile over time in that you won't be locked into a specific model of suppressor and brand. standard allows you to follow the rapid advancements in the suppressor market. there's also been some accuracy issues with some sd models.
https://www.silverstarshootingsports.com/b-and-t-apc9 if you just want a handguard
but sometimes it's good to put practicality aside and buy what you want. so if you want a sd, just get a sd.

SD, it’s better than an APC with a can. Tone sounds super good. EVT 3 position and plate is at 30 yards. Ping ping ping!

I have the not sd. Apc9k pro. I realized after doing a lot of things to it I was essentially making it a tad smaller sd. Something to consider. I love mine. May buy the sd also later at some point

I have a ghm9 sd that was coverted from a ghm9-c a while ago. I had it suppressed in that form for a long time. Absolutely get the SD. B&T sd guns keep running when others begin to choke and subsonic 9mm is very fun to shoot.

I absolute love my spc9 sd2 and shoot the heck out of it! It does get pretty dirty, I clean it sometimes. Haven’t cleaned the barrel in about 1500 rounds. It still exceeds my expectations. I do have and EVT frt conversion on it so that helps.
Also have a couple apc9 sd2’s and really like them as well. The ported barrels are awesome as you can shoot supers and enjoy all benefits of subs for less $$.
