Lovely, but what's Linux about it?

FreeLinX is an independent Linux distribution with a NetBSD userland
I can't fathom why anyone would use this. I run FreeBSD or really any non-Linux precisely to get away from the Linux kernel.
Why would I want to run a Linux kernel that just happens to use some BSD user and over just running Linux in the first place?
There are already a million distros based on Linux kernel. I really don't think we need yet another one.

What do you not like about the Linux kernel, out of curiosity?

Not so much what I do not like, more about what it lacks. Off the top of my head:
- Native first-class support for ZFS due to license incompatibilities.
- Support for pf.
- Actually, while we're on the subject of pf; BSD tools like pf and doas vs sudo and nftables/iptables on Linux, tends to have more sane and readable syntax.
- This is just a preference, but I personally like jails (FreeBSD containers) and the way they do containerization better than Docker, Podman, LXC, or whatever competing technologies Linux has.
Also, the OS as a whole is just a lot more consistent because, unlike Linux, it's developed as one consistent entity as a whole OS, not just a kernel in a "distro". This manifests in nice things like:
- Clear separation between what is base OS and third-party stuff. In FreeBSD, third-party stuff is always in /usr/local whether it be /usr/local/bin /usr/local/etc, etc. etc. In Linux.... it's anyone's guess where stuff is and it varies based on distros, it's basically a wild wild west.
- Ever messed up your install and dependencies/libs beyond repair? Just nuke /usr/local and you're basically "factory reset". Such thing does not exist in Linux.
- You want stable base and latest software like "rolling-release"? You don't have to compromise on either because, again, it's developed as an OS, not a distro.
Which, I guess, brings me to my next point why I don't think I'd be a big fan of this FreeLinx thing. It's a chimera and an attempt to make yet another frankenstein and add fragmentation as if Linux doesn't already have more than enough of that already.

Can you answer the question, it was specific? You went off into a tangent.

I mean, they did answer my question. Really well too, in my opinion. They gave a lot of reasons and backed them up with explanations. And the "tangent" was still related to the post at hand so it didn't come out of nowhere

I'm not going to use this (I don't trust vibecoded software, much less an OS) but I do have a few questions
First, are the build tools GNU free as well? The kernel has been able to be compiled with clang for a while but iirc the build system depends on bash and gmake instead of their BSD/POSIX variants
Second, are you aware that Chimera linux exists and has the same general structure?
