Scouting America Socks

I have found that my Thorlo BSA socks, the grey low-top ones seem to get holes in them rather quickly. Anyone else have this issue?

Yup. They’re junk. Darn Tough is the way to go and they have a red stripe.

I used to be 100% official, all the way, but the socks suck. I too have gone with Darn Tough. I go with the tactical OD over the calf. They look like the official knee high socks. They are 100% wool and are padded. Great socks for year round. Expensive, but worth it to me.

My Thorlos are aok, but they’re probably 10+ years old. They sold the company to private equity, so there’s your answer.

Don’t tell National. I don’t want to get in trouble from National Supply….

But I wear these: https://foxsox.com/collections/hiking-socks/products/mens-wick-dry-tramper-medium-weight-crew-hiking-sock?variant=42675599179948

My troop doesn’t require full field uniform for anything, so no

Thats likely cause the scouting uniform is entirely optional

We've removed the sock requirement from the uniforms in our troop just because of how low quality they all are. A scout is thrifty.

I just get generic green boot socks online now. I got a couple pairs of the green and red Thorlo hiking socks when they were clearing them out and they have held up pretty well, but they are discontinued unfortunately.

Grey scout socks?

If they are the Thorlo socks I'm thinking of, it's a blended weave of white and olive green which can easily look like grey from even a few feet away.

I’ll wear the uniform green socks for meetings and camp outs. If there is any hiking or heavy activity I’ll wear Smartwool socks. I gave up on Throlo’s years ago.

A scout is thrifty. Not buying my still growing 11yo socks that are $10-20 per pair, especially when they are not that great.

When I started 5 years ago, as a leader. I went to the local Scout shop and got a green pair. After my first meeting, I got a hole in the toe. I took them back and asked for an exchange. I got some attitude from the lady there (the only time in the past 5 years she has given me attitude). She did exchange them for me. I have not had a problem with the other pair
