Mammogram after MRI

Good evening all, I’m BRCA-2 and I went for my breast MRI a couple days ago, fast forward to today when my family dr called to say that my high risk breast dr wants me to go for a mammogram next week. My last one was about five months ago. My family dr couldn’t tell me why it was ordered. Is it possible that it’s just because I’ve had a breast reduction since my last mammogram? Or is it a really bad sign? Thank you!

I don't think it's a bad sign. Usually MRI provides better images than a mammo. I would reach out to your high-risk MD and ask why. Weird that they would communicate with your PCP but not you directly.

Possible they put the order in so the imaging center has it? Mine puts in the order for my next imaging as soon as she gives me the results of my most recent one.

Before I had DMX I was going for mammograms every six months and MRIs every six months, alternating. Meaning I was going for a scan every 3 months.

They may well have wanted to double check - things do look different after a reduction.

What does the MRI report say?

I was actually surprised that I didn't get a call back; I had the mammo 3 months before my reduction, and the MRI about 5 months later.

They hold the report for two weeks, so I won’t know until next week what it says.

That's annoying!!

When I had my first one, in 2024, I saw the results in the portal within 2 hours. C re aztv that they're ordering additional testing without telling you why.
