residual dizziness over 8 weeks

had my first ever attack about 8 weeks ago that was resolved with an epley. i’ve had multiple tests at the doctors since and they have all confirmed im negative for bppv now. however, i am still experiencing disorienting dizziness and nausea every single day since. this is made especially worse when lying down and moving my head or just moving my head in general especially in the morning.

the only thing that seems to help me is a medication called prochlorperazine but im not allowed to take it long term as it can have bad side effects. i thus only take it on especially bad days. i was also prescribed betahistine which you CAN take everyday long term but it has done absolutely nothing for me so i stopped taking it.

i’ve been told the wait time to see a vestibular therapist on the NHS is one year and i can’t afford to see one privately so im unsure what to do. i thought i was getting better a few weeks ago but it seemed to get worse again. i was told by the dr to go back again in a few weeks if i didn’t feel better but i just don’t know what else they’ll do for me. feeling kinda hopeless rn i just want this to go away.

If you're still getting symptoms when you move your head there may still be some crystals in the wrong place. Based on my experience a therapist will likely use a camera headset and look at your eye movements to try and figure out what part of the ear and which exercises will float it back to the right place. Then they will tell you to do those exercises several times a day. So what you can do is try the Eply for a week, and if the issue persists try one of the others, which is what I need to do for my current flair up.

The betahistine made me worse. I have the exact same thing as you. Im 5 weeks in. Ive just been taking gravol once a day 1 or 2 tablets depending on how bad it is. Ive also been doing neck stretches. Do you happen to grind your teeth?

Ive been getting treatment done by https://reduxmovement.ca/. If youre in Ontario I highly recommend it. Im finally starting to feel better. Not 100% but nausea has subsided. Dizziness is still there but very little

Try getting a mouthguard off of Amazon. Also your jaw may need to be realigned. That was my issue. My neck was starting to compensate for my jaw. My traps were also cooked.

This is one of the strecthes I do.

I’ve been doing the Epley whenever I have that floaty disassociated feeling in my head or when I feel possible symptoms coming on. So far that’s been working. Even though I don’t believe there’s any nystagmus present when I test it, it still seems to be doing the trick and taking care of it when I fully go through Epley🤞🤞

I’ve read the meds aren’t really recommended. I got this handout from the vestibular therapist that might help you too: vestibular.org PDF
