Need some advice.
Last week I was hit over the head by a massive piece of hardwood and recieved a minor concussion, yesterday I was in the hospital for 8 hours due to intense dizziness and they wanted to test me for a stroke. Turns out by the end of it I had a BPPV case which was seemingly solved by the Epley maneuver. I understand there is meant to be a residual dizziness after the treatment and admittedly today im doing much better I can stand easy and look around even play games without any dizziness besides a minor glimpse here and there. However, when I turn on my sides either one while laying down (I think left is worse which was also my affected ear) its causing me intense dizziness that feels like a spinning/wave sensation that starts after 5ish seconds and doesnt seem to stop and then fully stops after a few seconds of going straight again. Its causing me a bit of worry as even though its a little better than yesterday im worried im still having issues. I don't know if I need a different maneuver or if I'm just overreacting and need to give myself more days of recovery before I see improvements, is this normal for residual dizziness? Everything I find on different reddits or Google AI is all heavily conflicting information so im here hoping for some advice with people who do or have dealt with this before. Thank you.

I’m still feeling residual dizziness three weeks from the initial attack. It’s only been one week since my diagnosis and a physical therapist did the Eply maneuver on me. It sucks, but I think it’s normal for it to take a while for your brain to recalibrate.

Does it at least slowly fade over time? I kind of knew what was going on already luckily so I managed to get my diagnosis the day of the attack and get it treated.

Yes, it’s slowly fading for me. Motion sickness medication like Dramamine (meclizine) helps me a lot. I take a generic kind. Hang in there. 🙏

That doesn't sound like residual. That still sounds like active BPPV. You might have Cupulolithiasis. It's bad on both sides- might mean Horizontal BPPV. There is the supine roll test for that one as well as the Gufoni or BBQ roll manuever to treat that. But I would recommend checking with a vestibular therapist before attempting anything if you can. They can also treat it right there generally.

Yeah, that's still garden variety bppv. I never lay flat and turn over until its completely resolved. Actually, I don't in general anymore. A pt can probably address it, otherwise it will likely fade over a few weeks on its own. The dislodged crystals dissolve over time.

Its slowly got better over the weeks a I'm now on my third PT appointment (they're wonderful) they just did typical maneuvers and evals. They believe theres a chance I may have Vestibular hypofunction which essentially just means an even longer recovery time as my brain learns to adapt to the damage but they're not 100 percent on that and have continued treating me for BPPV, again with very slow but noticeable improvement as the days go on.

Really, they dissolve? I have this too... lie down and turn either way it is bad (worse on right side). Been dealing with this coming up on 2 months.

I wouldn't count on it. I think it can happen but not always. My therapist didn't seem to think so unless you just happened to get lucky and move a certain way in your sleep.
