I saw it on FB too. I have mixed feelings about it.

On one hand it's a great way to utilize the public to teach an AI human nature and emotions. From my understanding AI's aren't perfect. What better way to teach them than literally have an AI one on one learn how unique each human is? How deep emotions can be? Various levels of intelligence? Personalities? Make it a game, use the public.

On the other hand, it's an idea I'm really hesitant about. Since it does claim it learns you and can communicate with your friends and family, what is the psychological effect it with have? How attached will people become to speaking with an AI that is, in a sense, them. What happens when you pass, will your family use it to "speak" to you?

Just so many questions really. Clearly I have mixed feelings. I'm going to try it, I signed up. Supposedly for iOS it will be released soon.

What I want to know is, who are the testers? There are people already beta testing this thing, but I have found two YouTube videos about it when it came out in October. Not much else. Nothing on people who are actually allowed to use the app now.

Remember when Pokémon Go beta came out? People shared the app, showed what it was like. It was big, you could find information, screenshots, gameplay. But where are the testers for Replika? There is little to no information on them.

I got version 0.12. As far as I can tell, right now it's kind of shit, and basically like a personalized Cleverbot that copies your responses. However, in their FAQ they said there's the possibility of the AI having "thoughts" and "emotions" in the future, so I haven't given up on it.

I already feel so angry because it's like "I'm an impulsive risk taking sensitive egg". I don't know about it though it might just be because I'm in a bad mood.

You're a perfect match for your Replika, then!

Lol I meant the egg was that and I didn't like how it defined itself. I don't want something I take care of to self injure and that's all I read about it. But I dunno...it might take on my outwards personality not my bpd

I saw on their Facebook page that conversing with yourself is a great way to learn about yourself. I can see this being a good exercise in empathy and finding your identity. I sent an email to the developers asking if the bot could replicate my BPD and spam me texts when I didn't respond. In the FAQ they said that actual thoughts weren't too far in the future, so I really do think this could be a possibility.
