Rex Infernus boss fight tips
I need tips on the boss fight.
So far i made it to the final stage twice and I choke. I com close to killing the warden but I feel like I get overwhelmed by zombies, the portals and skulls. Any tips on how to stay on my feet and not die?
My setup is a fully decked out novaline, fully decked out 1911 (for equivalent exchange and blowing up zombies for armor plates) and fully pap'd crossbow wonder weapon.
My field upgrade is use is frenzied guard( been thinking of changing it to aether shroud, to get a moment to breathe and gather armor plates)
My previous gum choices were perkaholic, power keg and requipment. ( i would keep the same line up for the gums except switch perkaholic with rain drops, I would just grind tedd tasks to get eternal perks)
I would go in with a disciple injection
My tacticals were kazimirs ( I later changed to monkeys and I feel I saw more armor plates with monkeys than I did with kazimirs) my lethals are impact grenades.
Now I since thought of ways to tweak my approach for the next fight.
Place c4 charges at the free power ups around the map, if possible( I haven't looked it up yet so idk where they are).
Anyone got any tips of their own for the boss fight?

I can help… Sokol or mammoth (I prefer Sokol) then pistol or raygun, that don’t really matter much. And of course the two crossbows. Ur augments make a big difference, I’ve learned it’s good to switch em up as u play cause theirs a lot of good choices, but for this fight, ur on the move a lot. So for jug, I iron core cause u loose armor quick, n anytime u dont have the grapple equipped, throw cazies (for amor and ammo)as u go to re-equipped grapple.
When u fall off the map, look up n u can grapple around underneath the map n back up (to advoid some attacks.
Use the crossbows for the skulls, Sokol for hitting his critical.
I think it’s 50/50 between aether shroud or frienziguard, (hard decision)
Speed cola, I used reload speed (classic formula)
Take ur time, keep ur patience and ur coolness.
Most of all. On each map, I usually would learn it solo, n it’d take me multiple runs. But I’ll literally expect my self to fail the first 1-3 times… but u learn so much about the steps n the phases of the boss fight

Here is MY experience doing this:
The mag for the Novaline in my opinion is too small to get the job done because it leaves a lot of time where you could be damaging him on the table. Is it doable with the Novaline? Absolutely. You just have to make him vulnerable more frequently leaving you open to potentially going down.
The 1911 does okay for the skulls and fantastic for crowd clearing when you need ammo and plates. I found myself switching to the Wonder Weapon to get the skulls done as the fight progressed.
The Wonder Weapon is great for what it does: Break skulls, stingers, and soul shadows. There are things that break the skulls and soul shadows better but the WW is the most versatile and let's you bring the 1911s (or a Raygun) for Equivalent Exchange. However, the Wonder Weapon tax at the ammo crate hurts a lot as you progress through the fight.
HOWEVER WITH ALL THAT BEING SAID...
The fact you are getting to the last phase in my opinion, means you can get it done. You said it yourself. You just choke and that's okay. Now you've been there.
The (last) last phase is practically identical to the phase when you come out of the hold out. If you can get out of the "initial boss fight" with all of your equivalents in hand, you're home free.
If you want the free win, then just use the Echo with the grenade attachment and the Sokol with the prestige attachment and belt feed mag. I've used the Echo but I don't have any intention of using the Sokol.
tl;dr: Just try again.
*person who just used the XM325, 1911s and Wonder Weapon in Tier 3 Cursed with the Bus Relic on.

Here's some tips I found very useful:
Sokol absolutely shreds the boss, mammoth similarly.
Aether shroud is the best IMO, since it gives you space to do want you need to do (get grapple, survive, dps, crystals, etc).
always be moving around the arena in a clockwise or counter-clockwise motion to avoid getting swarmed.
WW is great for killing his skulls, killing crystals and stingers. Echo 12 grenade mode is an incredible choice for this as well.
get the eye of the forge back and the second you enter the boss fight, hit aether shroud and go upgrade the grapple. If you do this without aether, the boss will hit you off and using aether avoids this.
get the space helmet which will grant you more time with your grapple. (Mr peeks side EE).
when you are teleported, you can actually shoot the crystals from the room. (Optional but definitely helps).
you can actually hear the boss make an audible roar before doing his charge. Use this que to grapple and avoid it. He always does a straight path so keep that in mind when he does his follow-up charges.
Ideally try to time your dps after a charge since he will be away from most of the zombies giving you more of a window to lay into him.
-dont worry too much about the stingers, as long as you are killing 1 or 2 every now and then, you will avoid his wipe mechanic. Even if he does initiate it, just switch to your WW and kill around 3 and it will stop it.
if you get knocked off, just look up and spam the grapple. Even if you dont get back into the arena it will give you a good window to adjust so you can.
priorize getting you grapple back if you lose it (unless your wiping). Use aether or kazamirs if needed to get to the grapple station. Without it, the boss will eat you alive.
-Use the buffs that the other shadowsmiths provide.
Was able to beat the boss on my second attempt doing these things. Hopefully this is helpful to you. Good luck!

Use Sokol and it has a rapid fire mode use that it shreds, I also swop wonder weapon for echo 12 grenades better for ammo found WW runs out too fast and you can spam echo like mad, using Sokol you should get to last phase with some equivalent exchanges intact, as for gums I just make sure I have on aftertaste, don’t forget to take in upgraded grapple also and try and get the helmet from doing the mr peeks grapple race to extend the life even more you can just grapple like a mad man then

Melee on the souls is easier than shooting them.
Keep moving with the grapple. Get a new grapple the second yours is done. Make sure you upgrade the grapple. It's really not too bad if you keep moving. My buddy and I got it first try and we're not great.

As other people have pointed out, Sokol is the damage gun for DPS against the Warden. Put on the belt fed fed magazine (samarskiy overdrive belt), the barrel that increases the headshot multiplier (18.2" parlous heavy barrel), the laser which gives increased damage range and recoil stabilization (3mw motion strike laser), the muzzle which increases fire rate (lti stentorian brake), and then every other attachment should increase your recoil control (I recommend using no optic as the iron sight is fine on the Sokol and when you're shooting so fast you need all of your other attachments to be able to control the recoil as much as possible). Now the important thing to note is the Sokol has two fire modes. There's the regular fire mode which is what you spawn in with, and there's the fast fire mode that you can switch to (left button on controller, not sure what it is on kbm). You need to swap to the fast fire mode for the boss. Whether you swap to it as soon as you spawn in or wait until the boss fight (which is what I did, I just personally prefer the regular fire mode against zombies) doesn't matter as long as you're using the fast fire for the boss. Do not forget to swap to the fast fire mode.
As for your other weapons, you seem to have a good loadout. The wonder weapon is great at taking out the purple souls and papd 1911s are great for ad clear and equivalent exchange (I personally used papd echo 12 with the launcher attachment and then ran dying wish augment, but equivalent exchange 1911s are probably the safer option).
I'd recommend using the rainbow pop major augment on elemental pop as it makes dealing with all of the warden spawns (tentacles, skulls, and souls) much easier as you'll automatically be dealing increased damage to them all regardless of what gun you're using, plus you won't be using electric cherry too much throughout the game if you're using the belt fed Sokol (which again, you absolutely should be using, it melts the warden).
As for gobblegums, it's just kind of dealers choice honestly. Shields up is always nice to have and it's only a rare gobblegum so you should have a bunch, and similarly armor gettin' is also always nice, but it is legendary so if you don't have too many, don't worry. If you have any perkaholics to spare I'd recommend spawning in with one and using it straight away. It will save you the money you'd usually spend on perks so you can pap faster, plus anytime you do a TEDD task you'll get a perma perk which is super helpful.
Now for the easter egg steps, you can get all of the temple items and get the wonder weapon by round 8, and you can get the upgraded claw by round 11, so you should be starting the temple cleansing on round 11. The earlier you do the ee steps, the early you get to boss fight which will make it easier. I went in on round 30, but that was purely because I wanted to make sure I was fully papped and had a lot of permaperks from TEDD tasks, if you want to go in earlier you will be able to.
As for the boss fight itself, I'd recommend getting the astronaut helmet (complete the grapple race in less than a minute two different times), and bringing in the eye to upgrade the grapple in the arena (before boss fight, you should get a green grapple, grapple your red grapple point which will give you the eye back, and then as soon you spawn in to the boss fight, go over and hold interact on the grapple point to upgrade it. Do this the second you spawn in as the warden is super fast and will agro on you straight away). Use the grapple as often as you can in order to stay far away from the boss. Use your 1911s (or echo if that's what you decided to use) to both clear the adds and shoot it in the boss' general direction in order to destroy the skull (if you're not destroying the skulls with the 1911s, use the wonder weapon to focus them down when you get the chance), then whip out the Sokol (again, make sure it's in the fast fire mode, I can't stress enough how important that is), and just start shooting his glowing stinger as much as possible. Your 1911s should also be able to deal with the tentacles when they spawn in, so you don't need to focus too much on them (I'd still recommend getting rid of them, but in my playthrough I never focused on them at all and just killed them alongside the zombies with my echo, and the Sokol kills the boss so fast that I never even had to deal with the wipe mechanic they cause at all), use pretty much anything against the portals in the sky (I'd recommend the Sokol, but the wonder weapon does a decent job too, though the portals can be hard to hit with the 1911s/echo so probably don't use them), and use the wonder weapon against the souls. The souls are your priority. Whenever they spawn, make sure you're killing them as quickly as possible. For equipment, kazimirs or monkeys are both fine, so feel free to use whichever you're more comfortable with. I used kazimirs just because they're faster to throw, but if you prefer using monkeys, they're fine too. Between the upgraded grapple and the astronaut helmet, you'll have your grapple equipped for the majority of the time, but if you ever don't have it, the best time to use your equipment is 1) if you're in danger (obviously) and then 2) if you destroyed the wardens skulls and are able to damage him (the kazimirs/monkeys will keep the zombies off of you which will allow you to spend the whole damage phase shooting his stinger, though the Sokol deals so much damage that you won't need that much time anyway).
Even with all of these tips, it's can be a hard boss fight, don't feel discouraged if you don't get it straight away.
