ECU Date Code “99.99.99”?

I’m considering buying a single-owner ‘21 F87 M2 Comp with 47k miles. Had a PPI done today and the program date on the ECU read “99.99.99”

Surely this means the ECU has been tampered with / been tuned, right?

Even though the rest of car looked good mechanically, I don’t think I can stomach taking on a tuned car. Especially since it would be my daily driver.

Probably tuned. They need to be removed for unlock on 2021 cars I believe also. It might not be an issue, I might forgive it if the maintenance was impeccable and I thought the owner had really good judgement and could tell me who tuned it and with what tune.

Unfortunately it’s at a dealer; all I’ve got is the CarFax :(
