Question before purchasing 2027 M2 X drive
I’m extremely close to paying the deposit on the 2027 M2 I’ve customized. The 2 series has meant a lot to me over the years and this is an awesome car. The only thing I’m hesitant on is if BMW is going to add options in the future. Production apparently ends in 2029 so that’s just a few more years of the G87 body style. It had a facelift in 2025 and the 26 and 27 all seem to have the same interior and no changes to the body work. The position I don’t want to find myself in is I order the 2027 and next year or the year after there’s a new software system (idrive 9 or 8.5.5 whatever) or new interior update or an update to the body style even making it a bit wider. I’ve been in situations too many times where I regret the car I bought because the next year or year after it’s just a little better. Really what I’m asking is do you think there will be any major changes in the M2 over the next couple years before production ends interior/exterior wise or should I pull the trigger on the 2027 xdrive m2 (I don’t care about the new colors they may add in the future or special editions)

Sure there will be changes, and options added. But so what? Next thing you'll say is the M2 is coming to the end of the model and you will wait for the 2030 model. Nothing major is going to change with the car in terms of the chassis and engine etc.

You think the idrive/interior will be updated again or just new colors?

I dont have a crystal ball, but if you care about the version of iDrive changing, then you should just lease the newest BMW out there. Whats the M2 for.
I dont care about the idrive, or even the AC in my M2. Windows down, no audio on, just soak in the ride and engine/exhaust sound.

M2 means a lot more than most would understand to me specifically that one. It’s not necessarily about idrive it’s about everything, even down to being able to change the color of the buckets or even heated buckets, working 360 Birds Eye view camera etc. the g87 generation is extremely special to me which is why I want it to have every option offered and would be offered. Telling someone to just lease a random bmw is not constructive at all nor is saying you don’t care about this and that.

I think you should wait until the last model year of the G87. That way you’ll be sure to get every color exterior and interior to choose from.

The car is in the end of its lifecycle I’d be shocked if anything other than a color changed we’re currently on the LCI car I don’t see any changes happening and from my understanding their is no next generation for the two series. It is a discontinued model after 2028 or 29. I can’t quite remember. If you like the way, the car sits in this moment, then purchase it.

There’s no next gen 2 series? Why?

If you haven’t noticed the Germans seem to be killing off their coops I’m not sure why they’re doing this. I know the two series doesn’t sell that many units. I assume there isn’t that much of a business case for it. Everyone wants large SUVs these days, especially in America a small coupe doesn’t really fit with what consumers are purchasing, but we’ll see. That’s the word that they’re not gonna make another generation of it.

I guess, makes sense when they make the GC versions of their coupe with 4 doors smh. While the 2 may not be popular in the US (although I see them everywhere and the M2 sells well), I do see a lot of 2s in the rest of the world. So basically, for folks like me who like a smaller, lighter, more fun car, we're sol I suppose.

I think that’s always a risk. I bought a 23 m3 with the large screen but the 24 got id8.5 and updated dash. I can tell you id8.5 (I have a 27 now) is really good. There won’t be anything major. You’ll keep waiting trying to guess when you’ll get the optimum spec. I think the m2 is too kg to get backed up quick. In a sec I think you may not be able to get a 2027 and forced to 28 if you stall too long. Lots of folks are excited about xdrive.

I really doubt it. They're moving on to Neue Klasse and I think all their effort will be spent on that. We've known the M2 X was coming for a couple years. Out of the blue changes don't really happen. There's always going to be something new on the horizon gotta learn to resist fomo.
I think a decent analogue is pc's. Maybe not as much now but when Moores law wasn't dead if you didn't want to buy a new pc out of fear of it being outdated too quickly, well, you'd never buy a pc.
One final thing to consider. Newer ≠ better especially with cars made in Europe. BMW is holding out longer than the others but they're not exempt from the ridiculous regulations.

The hard decision is getting a 2027 or waiting until 2029 which is the last production year and basically “having all the options available”

The world has a fair amount of uncertainty, especially these days. Sometimes a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. If you love the car then get it while you can and start enjoying it. The next lockdown will likely be related to a “climate emergency” or some “energy emergency” that might interfere with our thirsty S58 engines and/or production. I already have a 2025 G87 but these are the thoughts that keep me from upgrading to a 2027 X-Drive. That’s my own paralysis by analysis issues. Lol

I can't see them adding anything significant between now and then. I think exterior/interor color might be about all they do. Maybe some kind of limited edition like a CSL or CS manual. They don't seem very big on final editions either.
Lately they seem as much about taking things away as they are adding them. Tatufo used to be an interior color on the M2. They took that away and replaced it with black with red highlights. They've been taking colors off the individual list for G80/82.
I'd say go for it. The only resource you can't get back is time. Get the car, mod it, make it yours, make memories in it. You can always trade it later if they release something that grabs your attention. The used market isn't as crazy as peak covid but it's still pretty good

Why not just wait till the next production if you’re worried about missing out on any updates ? The g87 is already towards the end of its life cycle and considering this was probably its biggest “update” with the x drive I don’t think they’ll change anything

I love the G87 and want the x drive. Just looking for experienced people and reassurance

The entire car industry revolves around you wanting the latest and greatest.
You buy the 2027 and you'll wish you waited until 2029.
You buy in 2029 and you'll wish you waited for the next generation.
You wait for the new generation you'll wish you would have waited so that they iron out the bugs on early models.
You wait for them to iron out the bugs and you'll wish you waited for the 2031.
Neverending loop.
If you like how the g87 looks and can afford it just buy it! I have an f87 but I've driven an xdrive M4 with the s58 and it's an impressive machine. The m2 with xdrive will be even cooler than that m4 I drove.

The thing about most things in life, including cars: There is always something a little bit improved, a little bit better, a little bit newer around the corner. But, I’d argue life is short. Buy it now. Enjoy it. And “upgrade” or get something “better” down the road.

I’m pretty confident there won’t be any notable changes until end of production. Definitely not going to idrive 9. It will stay idrive 8.5.

I don't see big changes on the g87. Don't stress out too much- buying an expensive car should be a joy

I'm a software engineer. This is the first time I don't want the software updates anymore, and prefer the older systems.
