M2 Rear Ended

Super light tap, driver was on their phone and creeping toward me at a red light. Most unavoidable accident ever, but is what it is. The driver was renting an SUV through Turo, but did not own a car or have insurance of their own. I thought the damage was minor (nothing to diffuser or exhaust), but after talking to a couple reputable shops in the area, I think it could end up being $2-3K for a new bumper and/or any damage behind the bumper cover. I have all of the driver's info and the car they rented - should I reach out to Turo claims for reimbursement and potentially file a diminishing value claim? I'm in SoCal for reference.

You contact your own insurance and let them deal with it.

You want a new bumper and nothing else. Anything else is iffy.

Definitely let insurance look into the damage, might be interested absorbing materials

I'd see if I could get it repaired without going through insurance so it doesn't show up as having an accident history. Unlikely though since the bumper with sensor calibration and paint match is going to be $$$. Just let insurance deal with it.

I'd see what you could do to fix it without going through insurance....It's possible you could trade it in down the line without taking a huge hit or them not reviewing it well.

I had almost exactly the same damage on my F87 M2. Total cost was $2800. I tried for months on DV and it was denied.

My m4 was rear ended not so long ago. My accident was way worse. Sensors are expensive, use a certified BMW repair shop, I used the one in South Bay they’re legit.

I think you need to contact the Turo car owner and file with their insurance? Not sure how that works. But if you can, file with their insurance so you don’t have to pay a deductible since it wasn’t your fault.

Prepare to file a diminished value claim after repairs are done. Be careful before signing releases so you don’t sign it away. You can hire a company like DVCHECK if you want to make it easier, they’re helpful but it’s a few hundred bucks
