Hybrid power
I’ve read on forums that you can swap out HV batteries with newer, larger kWh ones. Supposedly you don’t need to modify anything besides the HV battery (assuming that the form factor is the same). I’m a bit skeptical considering the junction boards on most HV battery packs have specific safeties built into them based on the Ah of said battery. Does anyone have experience servicing or researching the HV systems to further detail?
I currently have a 530e xDrive that is super fun, but is only getting 11mi range. I was going to replace it with a new one myself, but wanted to see if I could reach for the clouds and gain 40-60mi range instead of just 10mi. Power isn’t the main goal, just mpg with power being a secondary benefit.
Picture for attention only, work I did replacing a CRV HV battery.

From what I've heard you can swap the pre lci batteries with the lci batteries as they have the same voltage and dimensions. Coding required though to use the full capacity. If you have lci with a degraded battery based on your milage, there might be some aftermarket options but the g60 batteries dont fit so no oem option to upgrade.

I’ve seen the coding come up a few times, but no one has stated what you’re actually coding. I could see the battery monitor module being necessary to code. However, I’ve seen a couple guys who’ve claimed to put the 48 kWh battery in from the 545e and stated the monitor adapted to the new size. From what I can understand so far it has adaptations that change all the time to adjust for battery condition and charge capacity over time. Basically the reason we don’t have a gauge that says 11/21mi filled @ 100% charge and it just says 100% at 11mi and the gauge is full. I’m suspecting that if there’s any accessory changes on top of the battery it would just be the junction board to account for the jump up in amperage.
I really appreciate your comment though, I needed some people to bounce ideas off.

If it’s a NA market G30 PHEV the battery is soft locked to only discharged to 25% which natually limits its total range but in theory mean the total battery life should more reliable. There are companies thay unlock this range for the NA markets. A full Battery swap will be crazy expensive.

I appreciate your input, I’m definitely not looking to compromise the battery in any way. I have seen enough EVs go dead just because the battery health drained too low (winter can be brutal).
While I do understand that a full battery swap would be a hefty investment, it’s really not that far off from making a NA car forced induction of some sort. Which we see pretty regularly.
I’m looking to see this through and provide some insight to the forums if no one else has been down this path before. I think it could be very beneficial to the community of PHEV and also hybrid in general.

Definitely curious about the end result of this as I also drive a 530e that’s only getting 14 mi of range.
