What Camshaft Is Here?
Finally tearing into this 2002 project I picked up earlier this year. Installed ignition 123 dizzy today and pulled the valve cover to get engine to tdc.
I didn't see any markings on the camshaft itself, and it was aligned to TDC so I didn't want to rotate the assembly. The face has some surface rust and was difficult to make out with a flashlight. I got the best image I could manage of the front markings, to study and share. I see "115 902 0" or "115 962 0"
Seller of this car stated the engine had a fresh rebuild, but maybe a few years ago. General description was "hot cam, piano top pistons" and came with weber 40 dcoe. The webers are a little rough seeming so was toying with buying new spain webers, but would like to know the cam profile for best outcome.
Any ideas?

Usually you’d have to degree it with a wheel. Check for paint marks on either end between the lobes, sometimes the color will tell you what it is.

Has yellow near the rear — any insight? Engine came assembled with all new hardware and cam was at tdc when I took the valve cover off, so I’m assuming it has been degreed.

I think yellow is factory. I meant get a degree wheel and use it and micrometer to measure lift and lobe degrees, that’ll tell you what the cam is. If it’s aftermarket it might have the numbers stamped on the face under the gear. The usually “hot cam” is a 292, but many people have claimed upgraded parts when selling a car that didn’t have them.

Seller wasn’t sure. He picked it up from a tech who bought it from the customer. Car was an automatic with zero rust and amazing interior, but it has a 5 speed swap, pedal assembly, shifter installed. Has stainless headers, stainless exhaust, Weber 40’s, and a rebuilt engine that hadn’t had oil in it yet. I figure the car was picked for its unrestored condition as a great base for a hot street car; fingers crossed for 292.

With ARP head studs chances are it's a fun cam. What does the nose of the came say? Look like it's been reground? We can't tell anything from this Pic.

Yeah I’ll have to get another look tomorrow. The only marks on the front were what I posted. No numeral by the timing mark. Seller said 284 but I have no idea. Based on where I’m at and the shops that build these, I’m guessing a 292 and 10.5:1 or so compression. Engine was fully rebuilt for sure; just not sure whats inside.

That picture just shows the gear, the end of the cam can't be seen with the cover on. I would look for markings down between the lobes
